The connection I see between this anchor and a sheep shank is their lack of stability and potential for spilling with on again off again load cycling.

For me there are better solutions for each scenario

I would agree with that. I will likely never use the Sheepshank in tree work. However, I will still use it to shorten up a tent guy line if I need to. That’s an ideal use for it, as it’s constant tension, and will drop out nicely when you loosen it.
