Today I went to see Restrepo. It's a movie about an Army platoon stationed in 'the most dangerous place on Earth', a valley in Afghanistan.
This is a documentary, no actors. Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington were embedded with them and took 'fly on the wall' tape of the platoon.
The interviews with the soldiers put me back in my seat.
This is the second movie about any Mid-East war that I've seen. The other, Three Kings, was funny, but, Kelly's Heroes, its parent, was MUCH better.
As I was watching I was reminded of seeing film of Viet Nam on the evening news when I was in jr/sr high school. Knowing that the reporters and camera ops were right next to the grunts in the jungle made it damn real for me.
This isn't going to be a light date night movie but it is one that shouldn't be missed.
