..Sept2005, Hurricane Rita, Virginia.. massive damage to the entire area, whole neighborhoods blocked by fallen timber for days-weeks.. my mother home was lucky, only 1 tree back property line, tree pushed over.. homes behind ours had multiple old growth trees on them (historically area was called Mammoth Oak) tree srvc company was contracted to do removal, while there i had them remove approx 120ft (>150yo Oak) that somehow had no damage due to direction of wind even tho it was basically next to house on a sharp incline.. at the time i was living in Tx.. , i was there only temp.. years later i came up and found that apparently tree srvc had left this rope approx 120ft and 2ea approx 150ft pieces of 3/8 samson stable braid.. I can only guess but these companies were very busy and making 1000's per day.. while trying to get as much done and grabbing up as many jobs as possible.. they just forgot it.. i'm sure my elderly mother made some attempt to contact.. anyway 14yrs later i'm going to put it to use..

Looks like Yale XTC Spearmint, but that’s a 1/2” or 13mm.

Is it a 16 strand?

16mm is what you got with a caliper? Not pulled taught when measuring?

Apparently Yale makes/made a 5/8 version on the XTC-16 spearmint. That's what I'd put my money on. 10,000 lb avg, 10.6 lb/100 ft. This reference came from a pdf on Treestuff's site. May be old.

I want some 5/8 16 strand. That's a wonderful beater rope that can natural crotch and handle some negative rigging through hardware.
We have some chunks of what looks like 3/4 arborplex floating around at the shop, and it works, but it is terrible for tying knots and it is substantially weaker than 16 strand.
