Who’s your go to saw tuner / modifier ?
I’m looking for a Stihl 201 and echo 2511.
The guy who did my recent past saw work has pretty well retired. Any leads from worked saws you’ve used that are rippers yet faithful to work for day to day production tree work are much appreciated
 
I have been really happy with my rip saw 462 and have heard guys are happy with the smaller saws they (ripsaw) have built. Prices are outrageous these days. So I’m not sure how that plays with other builders
 
I don't have a ton of hours on it since i have 2 other climbing saws that get more use, but I've been very happy with the ported 2511T I got from Red Beard Saws. He was also very quick and helpful with my questions over a few email exchanges.

I wanted to revisit this statement haha.

Looks like ripsaw only has husqvarna and one echo (2511) that they have available for purchase.

Red beard has a 201 available and their 2511 price is cheaper than ripsaw ….
 
I’ve heard stay away from ripsaws; all bark not much bite. All hearsay to me no actual experience with their stuff, glad you are having success with yours @ flyingmosstreen

I heard about walkerized saws at crane school 2022maybe 24 as well ? from @deevo had one or two there
The 261 they had there in use was very strong and amazing sounding chainsaw! Beastly for its size!
Wonder how much and or difficult to get a saw from there to south of the border to New Jersey!

I would be curious to others experience. It’s my first worked on saw. So I can’t really quantify the extra power. I will say, I can fire this saw in one pull if I take the choke off quick enough. Almost every time from cold. And it is very peppy in throttle response. I run a 24” skip tooth setup (maybe semi skip idk) and it makes me smile every time so that is something haha
 
Yes, avoid ripsaw. See videos by Jason Egan regarding that.

I have way too many chainsaws and have had more. Almost all ported. The ones I have kept are ported by Kevin. I have been to chainsaw get togethers and run and raced saws by other porters. Kevin’s saws make measurably (dyno, timed cuts) more power and do not lack grunt at low rpm (what he calls forgiveness) when you get on the dogs.

My 346 just beat one ported by someone else by 4 seconds 20” buried in pine. Same bar, chain, air filter.

I also have a 372xpw, 7900, 395 by him…I’m sure I’m forgetting some.
 
I had a 261 modded by mastermind work saws. Awesome little saw that everyone liked running. Sadly a couple of years later it started melting pistons and the local saw shop couldn't figure out why. I'm certain Randy would have looked it over for me, but by that time the saw didn't owe me anything.

If I had any complaints at all, it was the lead time. I was told 8 weeks at the time and it ended up being 16 weeks. My take away from that was, if you need a saw now go to the dealer. If your not in a pinch and you'd like a stronger saw, have one built for you.
 
Cool yea it’s worth the wait for me I’m not hurting for saws
Just want the best reliability for primo cutting power like the rest of us if imagine
Figure maybe order now and be ready for spring rush

I have several saws ported by mastermind, all still running great after many years. Also have several from LNS ( Jeff seccombe) all running great.
 
I’ve got builds from masterminds, Joe Johnson, leave nothing stock, buxton work saws, and Iowa performance saws. Not a bad thing to say about any of them. Buxton was the easiest process of them all…. Pick your saw, pay for it, and it’s there in a few weeks. I’ve got a 400 and a 201 from him, very reliable rippers.
