Where was this guy when I was a rookie and needed a mentor. I'm speechless. That is one of the weirdest things I've seen on the internet hahaha. Thanks for posting this.
 
What a lot of work to ascend that poplar! TC had to work his Arze off going up that tree, (what was it, 4 or 5 times?) the saw was purely a work of ingenuity! Crazy as He((, but ingenious! Who'd of thunk it?
 
i get the impression this is not a joke. and this dude has 2,400 posts on treebuzz. there is no excuse for this type of work being passed off as professional arboriculture. totally clueless

Guys, it's not me, it's just a random video from youtube.

The remote saw fixed to the tree, the fishing rod, the ancient SRT system, the dead slow spike method, the correct analysis of the structural defect and subsequent technical drawing, the old client nearly wiping himself out pulling down on that throwline (had it snapped), the multiple ascents required, the insane final cut, the beer........this video is easily more interesting and entertaining than anything by August Hunickie or Daniel Murphy.

It's a guy called Billy King who seems to enjoy solving problems in his own unique way. You get the feeling he's self taught and works in relative isolation.

To help keeps things in perspective here's a pro with hardhat on to remind us all that if you wear a hardhat it makes you a pro

At 4:30 when he is ascending with his super srt kit it looks like he base tied to that log laying next to him?!

I love youtube.
 
I can imagine that he would take well to proper technique and gear if some one would show him. He might even improve some of our gear.

I'd like to see what he does with a tree closer to a house.
 
I think that the mounting plate/hinge setup might have merit.

His setup is basic...analog version.

I could see setting it up with an RC throttle control. After seeing what people build on Instructibles and robot destructo competition it would be simple to have the rotation done with a small motor...remote control again.

The rest of the video was painful to watch! At almost every scene I was expecting to see disaster.

The lateral cracks in the wood in the main decay pocket would be enough to turn me around back to the ground...slowly so that I didn't flex load the tree with me attached.

There is a mode of thinking---> All's well that ends well!
