Yeah I recall that painting. But it's been quite a few years since I've been in that shop. and at the time I wasn't keen on the accuracy of the species depicted in it. I'll have to look at it again. Terri and I were up there last week.
Across from the High Rock conservation camp on the old highway is the Hass and Starr groves. There's a redwood on the flat with quite a large hypertrophy about 40 feet up. I set up some ways from the tree to frame Terri in, and she hollered out, "Those are spring boards up there!"
She was right. Someone, years ago, boarded up the tree to do something with that big wart, and left the boards. No evidence of any cutting.

That's an artifact I'd be curious to check out next time down. I turned around once near there, in the drive way of the camp ... as the photo shows - lol
