Red Oaks

Heres a job we did a couple years ago. Two Red Oaks in a front yard on a very busy residental street. A bit of planning for this job. One of the trees we could reach with our boom truck the other sat around 90' away and we would need to rent a 40 ton truck crane. We decided to wreck both of them with the rental, why make two trips. We also needed to get permits from the city to close one lane of traffic. Needed two extra workers to flag the traffic. Very tight landing zone with primaries on the far side, not much room. Ground crew was not happy as I buried them. Trees were not that large, maybe 35"-38" They did have lots of decay and really weird form, Here is a couple of cuts.

Here's a little busier vid for ya. Came on previews after the errr...less busy one above. Looked like a little scare on the fatty cut on the ded elm :reloco:

good vid tho...
There's a reason I never posted that video. My climbing line snagged on a stub and sent me for a ride. Also I had no lanyard on. You should always have two attachment points while operating a chainsaw. Glad I didn't. That was very scary at the moment. Myself and the crew talked about that at the end of the day . They said don't leave stubs dumb ass!

Hey Todd, not nec. in this case, but rules were meant to be broken. If I am making a cut and don't want to stay pinned in there and want to maybe swing out to not maybe get slammed...I go sans the lanyard. Uhoh...safety police gonna get me?

Ever try to barberchair a leader...on purpose? Thought it might be interesting, so , years ago, I was way up in a huge dead ash which is straight grained anyway and good to barberchair, and it (the lead...I was tied in elsewhere) was bent way over and above picnic tables which we moved for the td (in a park). Well it worked and the lead barberchaired and the butt came right down where I "would have" been standing were I lanyarded (non sans lanyard) in. Woulda been squashed like a festering pimple.
