recognize this rope?

The outside cover is white with one green strand. The inside tagging piece says Yale Cordage 2006 Type A... Can this rope be spliced (by hand) and if so what type of splice would it be?

It doesn't appear to have any 'filler' strands (like for example, the blue streak). All of the strands appear to be the same color and size. Is the Yale XTC splice the same as the traditional 16-strand splice?

If I may weigh in here, this looks like a Yale 12 strand rope.

The white with green tracer doesn't appear to one of there "regular" product offerings, but they do put the little ID strip throughout the length of 12 strand rope.

If that is the case, it is a non splice rope.

I like that white and green combo. Very nice.

It is definitely a 16 strand. You can count the strands between the green marker strand and see there are 8 going one way, and of course 8 going the other way...16 overall.

They put the plastic tag in the 16 strands, too. If there are no filler strands, this could be the first solid 16 strand climbing line.

I've sent the pic to Yale to see what they say. We'll get to the bottom of this!

Their 12 strand is spliceable, but only at the factory using their Varilay technology where they soften the weave of the rope in the spliced parts of the rope.

If it has filler strands, it can be spliced like XTC.
Cut the end off about 3" back and check again for filler strands. I have never heard of a 16 strand plaited rope.

Finally had some time to actually 'see' the rope. Pulled it apart quite a bit and found the white filler strands (which looked an awful lot like the cover strands).

I have a new rope for all of you. This is a 3/8" cord. The construction is alot like beeline, but the core is a hollow briad 12 strand.

The rope was provided by a company that a friend of mine worked for. He couldn't ID it, so I wouldn't let him use it anymore. It's great stuff though. Doesn't really glaze at all, really smooth, and firm. ...But no climby unless we can find out the type and strength.

I would not climb on that. Sta Set is a great rope, but not designed for climbing, let alone used as a hitch.

Neat splice though, ain't it fun to play around with ropes and splice stuff like that?

John, I have found that Sta set makes for great friction hitch cord. It doesn't last as long as the hi mod lines, but it performs just as well. And it's way cheaper!
