Recession?

Please , tell us what you did to achieve this inquiring minds want to know
Honestly, we had a huge wind storm, but the main thing was going from a 16” dump trailer, to a 165hp 15XP. We now can chip 5-6 slashed dump trailers of brush into our 22 yard chip truck.

Becoming a BCMA last July really gave us an uptick in calls as well.

I would love to hear how a cert led to more customers. Not being sarcastic, genuinely interested. Around here, in 16 years of tree work I've had maybe a dozen customers ever acknowledge that they knew the ISA even existed....
For me, it was people looking up the Arborist directory online, and seeing I am one the the few in the area. Normally you become the first call, assuming they are wanting a CA.

I am right with you! Almost no one asks if I am an arborist ever. But

I am right with you! Almost no one asks if I am an arborist ever. But they see it on the business card/proposal and research it. I get asked about after they see it. Also has met me land much higher end jobs. Like Cable, Brace and prune a huge tree for $5000.00 kind of jobs.

Its gonna rain all week this week so I'm probably done with my year. I'm 68% behind last year. I've billed out $97k less than I did in 2022. I've been working 2 or 3 days a week for months. I'm thankful I have only had 3 months in the red. Not sure about this month yet but I netted $183.00 last month. I'm trying to stay positive and look at it as any gain instead of a loss is great. I tried to prep for this as much as possible with some huge reserves. Can't help to feel a little sad as I watch this thing I've built tank slowly. Hope somebody will hire a broken old man to climb for them at a reasonable rate if it comes to the. Merry Christmas folks. Hope your day is not filled with thoughts of economic hardships.

Steve, your application was accepted by HR here. What are you waiting for???!!!

You have a ton to offer, far more that just being "a broken old man to climb for them at a reasonable rate if it comes to th[at]".

Building that aspect of your business seems sensible. You have a ton of contacts. Those people have contacts.

Diversification!

True. I hear what you're saying. I am set to do a little more than just trade shows this year so that will be interesting to see how training for a couple individual companies will play out. I have turned down those offers in the past. This year is a little different I think.

I’m a one man show with one or two ground help as needed. This has been my side gig for over 20 years. Life’s been good and I was able to buy pretty much all the right equipment I needed.

2023 as a whole is 120%, however phone fell silent since December 1st. Not even one!

Normally busy till Christmas. Slow in January and February, busy again in march or April.

I’m ok since all my equipment is paid for and I have retirement from my regular career.

Hang on there and survive.

Hope things pick up for you and it sounds like you're in a good spot for debt. Hopefully you can still feel those who depend on that. I'm out of work completely. I have nothing and am exercising my inner calm TF down. Think I'm gonna go do some climbing for fun this week now that hunting season is over. Might lift my spirits to touch trees for a while. It's gonna be an interesting year to see where the universe leads me. Kinda scary but it'll work out.
