Petzl Recalls Safety Ropes Due to Fall and Injury Hazard

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled ropes and inspect the rope for a deep cut or tape connecting two ends of rope together, and if either is found, contact Petzl America for instructions on receiving a free replacement rope.

"Our in-depth investigation and risk analysis have led us to the following conclusions:

  • the two defects occurred on one of our rope-cutting machines
  • the two defects have common root causes
  • the risk of the two defects occurring is near zero (only a complex sequence of multiple, independent factors could lead to the occurrence of the defects)
  • this risk did not exist prior to March 2018
  • only the ropes cut on this machine are at risk of these defects
We took immediate corrective actions to eliminate this risk on the production line. Our stock is in the process of being inspected and no further defect has yet been found."

I wonder what the common root causes are.
 
Strip on the inside of the Sequoia bridge was nearly identical to the strip and construction of some Mammut static rope which had Teufelberger on it. Seems a lot of rope is now being made in the Czech Republic.

I understand what happened in the production of the rope, but I have to question how Petzl even allowed this unsafe rope out of the factory, let alone into anyones hands...

This is why I chose to go with Samson, Yale, New England, and Sterling for my rope needs whenever possible..names that have kept me safe and alive for a long time...
