Rec saddles?

I started in a weaver 4d, then had a treemotion, and used a Sequoia a few times too before I stopped climbing. Never ever even put on a rock climbing harness before, or even thought of it honestly, until I realized one could be had for so cheap. I knew someone here would have though. Everyone seems to be echoing my thoughts about it, so I think I'll stay away from that. Thanks guys.

It's a no brainer man you have a killer opportunity to get a treemo from jtree for 200$ damn near mint dude. That's a steal and if or when u don't want it you can definitely sell it on here for 100-200$ .

Yeah I know, and I'm seriously considering it.
Only 2 things holding me back.
1: It's nearly 9 years old, which is typically retirement age, regardless of use. Granted, I have never kept one that long and have no 1st hand experience with any equipment failure due to age, so maybe it's fine, I don't know for a fact.
2: I don't have, and never have had a pay pal.
I know I'm stuck in the stone ages, but in my neck of the woods we don't even have cable. Hell, I'm not even sure how it works, though I'm sure it isn't difficult to arrange.
I've never even been on a forum like this, or social media, or anything like that. I have always preferred face to face interactions with people. That said, I'm really glad I joined this after browsing around a bit. There is a ton of knowledge in some of these conversation, along with a few meat heads. It's kind of like Sherrill seminar without Vermeer trying to sell you everything in the store.

Glad to have you! While I prefer face to face interaction, forums where life changing for me when I found them. You can't find the collective in person like you can find the collective on a forum

Second your thoughts on the Buzz. I have learned so much lurking and reading on here. It was nice to meet a couple of buzzers IRL at Expo this week. Great community here in the arb world. And @Alabama_Woodsman seriously can’t go wrong with a used Treemo. If @swingdude likes it I would trust him. He gave me bomber advice on a line and SRT climbing system set up and when I bought the gear changed my working life for sure.

Biggest drawback to rock harnesses IMO is the lack of side D-rings. I've climbed lots of trees in a rock harness but you can't get too fancy with redirects without being able to secure yourself while slacking your main line/system.
So, Joshua Burr has been using a croll on a short tether that he keeps tidy on his harness for exactly this use, although it is on a pro harness. It's not a really cheap solution, but it is a light one for rec purposes. It's also very fast to set.

What's the problem with attaching a lanyard to the belay loop?

Not even for one carabiner? That's all you need if you choke the lanyard or use a hitchclimber.
No, not with a carabiner already in there, connected to my system. I put a small DMM bat plate on a Petzl Ring Open, giving me three holes to work with, but after awhile, the bulkiness of it seemed ridiculous for a rock harness. Why try to reinvent the wheel? Still use the harness occasionally for a quick climb in a short tree or to hang out in a tree hammock.

I get what you mean with the bulkiness and getting cluttered.20191010_170917.webp
