Hi I know this is an age old debate, but I always appreciate everyone's input, so thanks in advance.
I'm planning getting a bucket truck, mainly considering rearmount vs chipbox. Also trying to eliminate an extra trip, see below.
I'm trying to evaluate the options, trying not to rule anything out prematurely.
Basically better staging, access & reach vs versatility & hauling capacity.
Right now I have 2 trucks: f550 chipper box, chipper; f350 srw, dump trailer, mini skid. Skid can go in f550 box also.
I do mostly rural residential, municipal, parks, with some streetside work. It is BC interior so often pretty hilly/narrow access.
I do both smaller jobs or no cleanup jobs where I can get away with 1 truck, and also bigger jobs where I'm hauling wood, chips, debris, and mini skid and need 2 trucks. Sometimes I have to make a return trip to pick up the mini skid, which I am also trying to eliminate.
Having 2 chipbox trucks is 1 solution, or being able to put the mini on rearmount deck (increases wheelbase), or else getting a bigger chip truck with a mini platform eventually (chipper truck wheelbase less critical?), last idea is one of those dump trailers with the equipment platform in front.
Anyone care to weigh in? Other considerations or setups? What works nice for you guys?
Thanks
James
