Really cool big old maple

This huge maple, about 7 feet dbh, was topped off at the height the guys are standing, about 10 feet, back in 1915. It has verticillium wilt. I'm removing the dead lead that I'm in, plus some other branches. There's still 5 main leads left. As you can see, there's room for a bunch more folks to stand.

I was in a hurry, and neglected to get more photos.....

Nope, Tom. It'll be totally dead in 3-7 years......Vert wilt eventually wins out....

Arnie, the customer-( no helmet, in the last pic) is going to build a tree house. He had me leave the dead stem at 30 feet. It won't fail and hit the house, but I suggested that he rope it back to another lead, as a safety.

Fabulous tree Roger and great pics thanks for posting them..what a shame you feel the wilt has a death grip.

That tree would have brought joy to many generations over its (soon to be shortened) life span.
