For the last ten days I was on a road trip from Austin to Charlotte. The trip took me through a beautiful and changing landscape. The trip also took be across a changing musical landscape.

Leaving Austin, The Live Music Capital of the World, and heading east took me through an area where 'country' music sure doesn't suit my ears. Since I was in junior high my ear really liked a certain sound. Over the years this sound has become known as Americana/Roots/Outlaw Country. My main musical diet is filled to heaping proportions with this music. There are side dishes too of course.

Here's a concert of Ray Wylie Hubbard from his previous album...see my signature

Three years ago I was at a Sunday music festival where RWH was supposed to close the show. Since his son Lucas, who was in high school at the time, plays guitar in his band, and had school in the morning they switched places with 'Eleven Hundred Springs'...another fun band!

RWH wrote 'Redneck Mother' made famous by Jerry Jeff Walker.

really cool tom thanks for sharing . my musical taste is varied . now that i am older i am definitly more open minded to more music . long live willie nelson . i played in bands since i have been in the eighth grade . i play electric bass , upright bass , electric upright bass , with a bow or my fingers . i have played punk ,blues , jazz death metal , indie rock , and just about everything in between . now i am in my 30's i run my tree business and i have my family so i really dont get to play to much these days . plus my interest and priorities have change . i cant live as care free as i once did , but i still would not change anything . i am happy with all the experiences this life has brought me so far . keep on jamming .

Well Tom, you know i had to jump on this post. I share your love for this kind of music, as we have previously discussed. I heard some of his new stuff shortly after you told me to check out his new album. Very good stuff. I think the term "country" is not so accurate here. Most people think of pop music out of Nashville as country, which reminds me of a Hank 3 song. I know you live in the live music capital of the world, but have you ever listened to the "Bakersfield Sound"? My computer is broken, going to get a replacement this weekend. When i do, I'll be sure to send you some discs, assuming you don't have the same albums I have. Seems like Hayes might be RWH's heir apparent. RWH has definately influenced a whole new generation of artisits.

Im with you Tom. Outlaw country and american roots music is my thing too. When young and living/traveling throughout the southwest from one dusty town to the next it was very relevant. Now it makes me nostalgic for those days. Have you ever listened to Adam Carroll?
