Rated Rings

I hope some clarification can be provided on this.

In a couple different instances I've been made aware of the need to have rated rings now for climbing purposes. The rings that you would find on one of the original yellow friction savers (with the red and green ends). I also have them on my Buckingham Glide 2 lite saddle. I contacted Buckingham mfg. by email but no response. The aluminum rings on my saddle are not stamp rated. Should I be concerned about this? Has there beenchanges in standards? Thanks!

Don't know for sure...but my guess is that if the harness (or friction saver) has a rating on it, the rating doesn't need to be on each individual part. That would mean while the rings are tested they probably can't technically be used outside of the whole "system".

The Buck rigns are the exception. They are not for sale individually only on products. They are rated. They are also distinctive as Buck rings with the coating, so they can be repurposed when the original product is retired or damaged.

How strong are they?

Correct that the individual components don’t need a rating when used as per intended instructions on a rated product.
If you cut the rings out and then spliced them into a diy friction saver. Then a ring broke, you are now legally considered the manufacturer and couldn’t sue Buckingham.
Are they safe to use? Likely very much so! What we do know is that the Buckingham FS is rated to a MBS of 5,400. And when used as intended the MBS of each ring is half that. Choose your safety factor..

I jus bought one and don't see a rating anywhere. Though I trust Buckingham and I'm using it as intended....I thought they were the same rings on their harnesses. I was thinking about using them on my rope bridge someday. But I guess ill stick dmm rings.

I'd touch base with the retailer to see if it should...

Here is a pic of one from Tree Stuff:

Yea theirs no strength ratings on that. I did check and all anybody says is that the fs is ansi z133 compliant. Nothing on bucks site and no ratings in the archives here.
