Rain Gear

I've been trying to find the perfect affordable rain gear to buy for my crew. Here in the PNW all fall/winter/spring is rain gear. We need something that is light, durable, waterproof. Ideally it would be less than $250 per suit. What are your guy's thoughts?

Wespur carries the grundens set ups. I picked one up last year, it still looks brand new. Depending on which you choose, it's pretty light and breathable. I think made in the NW too

Tried the Grundens, durable but seemed to spring a leak fairly quickly. I've never found a jacket that has any treatment on the fabric to be very effective long term. Grundens does fit well though.

Helly Hanson made his name by making durable raingear for North Sea fisherman. The company still makes good quality gear at a fair price.

The Stormsurge needs to have the fabric retreated every couple of months. Nikwax wash or similar products do this effectively.

I'm currently trying out the SIP stuff. Durable so far, though not terribly breathable. Seems to be just enough stretch that you can actually move pretty well in it. $90 for the jacket, $50 for the pants. I've only had them for a few weeks though. Verdict is still out.

Grundens works for MN timber framing, tree work (on the ground, never climbed in them), early\late season canoe tripping, and whatnot. I think my jacket is the Brigg 90 with neoprene cuffs; bibs are some of their heavier ones. PVC, not breathable. Great in 40 degree all day rains, not great in summer. Tough, heavy stuff.
