Racing Fuel in Chainsaws?

I just went out and bought 10 gallons of 100 octane and mixed w/ Stihl HD full synthetic. The litmus test.....I filled my home firewood pile (read abondoned/neglected) Stihl 026,.... ..it ran like a scalded daog. Going to work early tomorrow to dump all the tanks and refill with this Nectar...game CHANGER. wish I would have known 23 years ago.....

Hey, BLF! Thanks for reviving this thread; I don't think I ever noticed it before.

I'd say "Welcome to the TreeBuzz forum!", but it appears you've been a member for a lot longer than I have been. So I'll just say "Nice to meet you." I hope you stay awhile.

Tim

Thanks Tim. I love the Buzz and learn a lot every time I can log on. Sometimes I have something to contribute but mostly it is just an online tree guy encyclopedia for me. Look forward to talking to you.

Yep, that smell is different, I noticed the acceleration seemed more smooth and the top end was better, Time will tell on repairs and tune-ups, we have 5 -200's a 201t and a husky 540, I will report back if those factors change, goods thread overall.

I ran 5 gallons thru my various saws. Husky and stihl. Didn't noticed a difference except smell. Two of my Huskys are auto-tune so I thought that might help, but nothing noticeable.
That's not surprising, increasing octane has not been linked to increased performance. I'll post a bit of research a member of AS ran.

- all e free gas from 3 different gas stations
- all mixed with 32:1 schaeffers
- new .404 RS stihl chains for each test
- no reset performed. I ran some other tests previously and did reset. After a lot of testing, I just don't think a fuel or oil or oil ratio change requires it. I actually think it's counter productive to the test to do it.
- bought all this gas on the same day with-in a window of 1.5hrs.

Please watch the intro so you know what's going on...

cenex 87 times are legit. They coincide with previous tests where I was running 87 cenex.

Fleet Farm 89 times are legit as well as they also coincide with other tests I was doing. As do the temps.

why bp91 & ff91 ran hotter than cenex92 ya got me. Curious what ya guys think.

Redbull660 seems to spend his days thinking up new test for different variables that go into cut times.

He almost broke AS with an epic oil test thread. There was much butt hurt when results didn't support people long held beliefs. It was amusing to me, but some people took it insanely serious.
