Quickie killer?

The locking action that replicates the 200 series blocks was a great idea.
We do have them up on the site if anyone wants to grab one. We have moved a bunch already.

A cool shiny new object for sure, but the pin mechanism is gonna have to prove that its truly safe for life support before I jump on the band wagon. Time will tell?

I DO NOT climb with gloves and I have zero problems with a quickie. I never give a second thought to jumping into one at 200ft. Ever.

Looks like it could be made into a nice chest roller for those who like those.
I always thought chest rollers were a good way to die.
I don't want anything on the rope that is not a part of my climbing device. I don't even like hand ascenders for that reason. Use them when transversing, but not climbing. But that's me.

Looks like it is going to be heavy and bulky to put on a bridge. I assume it is stainless steel not aluminum. I don't need that kind of weight and bulk on my harness. Really, as cool as they seem, I can't think of a use for one. If it was there I might use it as a pulley to bring up a larger saw, but I don't want to haul it up there for that, then find a way to attach it to the tree.
Looks like something that is going to show up on Wespur's discontinued page.
Love my quickies and use them quite a bit, but the pins are a pain with gloves on. I should cut the tip off of one thumb so I can use the nail for them.
I use the quickie on nearly every SRT climb. I think the sheave portion will make retrievals short or long a breeze. I’ll be buying one or two for sure!

Sorry if I'm missing it but does anyone know the difference between the small one and the large link. On ISC's website I couldn't find any difference other than the weight? Why bother with two sets of machinings etc.?
Weight (grams)145(Large) 135(Small)
Weight (ounces)5.8(Large) 4.8(Small)
Height (mm)57(Large) 55(Small)
Height (inches)2.3(Large) 2.1(Small)
Width (mm)68(Large) 66(Small)
Width (inches)2.7(Large) 2.6(Small)

Not much difference.

The large one would accommodate multiple connectors or a webbing connection better due to the shape. The other would seem to self orient better on a single piece of rope or connector. My .02

Yea, it's all about the weather ur working in....
If it's so cold you need gloves, then slic pins can be aggravating.
If you don't use them in that weather too much then your probably not gonna think twice about it.
There's Def a better, easier way and one of these guys will figure it out.

Obviously, we all need to be comfortable with our climbing systems. FWIW, this looks to be rated at 40kN while a Quickie is rated at 30kN.

Again, obviously, they don't make those numbers up...they are based on testing using standardized methods.

But, yeah, I could see wanting to hear whether there are unexpected pin disengagements during use. I'm confident ISC thought through those, tested, redesigned, etc... until they thought they had a product that wouldn't open. But users will test it in ways and provide more reps than a product development team could ever do.

I'd play with it a while to make sure I can convince myself I know how to use it, and I didn't think there was a chance of accidential opening. Once I settled that in my mind, I'd climb on an Ultralink now...but I don't climb enough SRS to spend another $70 when the Quickie has served me well the few times I've used it. If I were a daily Quickie user, I'd be ordering one of these now.

Biggest question on my mind: Are the ITCC folks going to get behind this? Comps have been turning down Quickies at gear check...
It's clearly a functional piece of gear, but at its price point may not fully replace the Quickie...comp climbing might be a niche where this is needed to avoid any slic pin concerns (of which I personally have none).
