I'm not sure where to start on this one... so here is a picture.
Tree background: It is a bit fuzzy but, several years ago a large mature elm, species unknown, was treated with Paclobutrazol. The following year it was removed and a replacement was planted in place at the same time. My best guess is that the replacement was a Prospector Elm. The Paclobutrazol obviously was still in the soil and yes elm species are sensitive. There was some funky growth to the replacement. More of a pendulous shape. About a year ago we trimmed the tips out to see if we could get the product out of the meristematic tissue. Several months later 8+ foot of growth came out. It probably had lots of stored energy and a substantial root system.
My questions: Is there a technical term for this type of growth, is there any viral associations, future growth predictions?
