question about rope diameter and zk2

I like the epicord as well. Working very well for me on the yale 11.7
hey mike just got my yale 11.7 and its not really working with my current cords. just wondering what size and diameter is the epicord you're using and what type of hitch are you using?
i had some older 10mm beeline and it seemed to work best with it. the rest of my cords are all mixed 8mm.
just wondering if i should go for the 9 or 10mm?

Actually I might be even using a 3/1...it breaks down a bit when weight is applied so I forget. It has a little more friction tending slack than say a Vt but it breaks nicely on descent and is super smooth. I am 180lbs

I'm 180 no gear so we shouldn't be too far off. All I can say is keep tinkering with the wraps and different hitches....I'm sure you'll find one that works perfect for you with the 9mm.

I'm unsure about the 10mm to be honest.

I rock the knut with 8mm op, 10mm op and some 8mm armor prus on tachyon, Yale 11.7, and some all gear 11.5s. Just mess around with wraps and length of cordage. I weigh 200 fully geared up and don't have many issues with locked up hitches. A pinto spacer on the top of the hitch really helps too.

I hear you! Im 200plus as well, had no end of trouble dialing in my knot (the sticky knot problem). A VD works pretty well for me when its tuned to slip when I throw my weight into it. Just add a wrap when ascending.

I've been playing with the RW and hitch cords on All Gear Cherry Bomb and New England KM Max today, and thought I'd pass along what I've found out so far. Ropes and hitch cords are all brand new, so keep that in mind. Current weight is 188 lbs. The hitch cords were 8mm EpiCORD @ 24", 9mm ArbPro @28", 10mm EpiCORD @ 28" and 10mm Ocean Polyester @ 28". Although I did try various hitches and configurations, I did most of the testing with a 5:1 Distel because it gave me the best performance, so far, and I wanted to keep things fairly constant.

The KM Max rope took everything I threw at it and every single configuration I tried worked well enough to feel safe. I was stunned, to put it mildly. The best of the whole hitch/cord combinations was the 9mm ArbPro and the 10mm EpiCORD with the aforementioned Distel hitch.

The Cherry Bomb rope didn't like much of anything I tried, but some combinations were quite usable. The best was the 10mm Ocean Polyester with the Distel hitch.

I'm guessing that the Cherry Bomb just needs a little breaking in, but I'm going to order some other cords and see how they do.

For now, the KM Max and 9mm ArbPro is the one I'll put to work.

My two cent of observations says that the fatter the cord, the more friction and load the RW make/takes. So then you knot is more forgiving. I was climbing XTC and Imori and a friends Vortex. For me, i made the switch because i'm pruning and deadwooding full time in southern germany, deciduous trees average 100 ft +. At a certain point i was limb walking, could barely move even with a completely open hitch. Took to using the wrench to push the knot, with the obvious safety tradeoff. Also anytime i was climbing against the system(setting up pull backs, etc) i also sometime came to a near stop with an open hitch. I got a velocity for the spiderjack, tried it with the wrench, iv'e been hooked on 11mm lines since.

My favorite is this stuff

I Like it with a sewn eye on one end, that way I can endlessly adjust till it's just right.

The KMIII seems most forgiving with hitches/cord. I always seem to need one more wrap with the KM Max. The velocity drove me mad, i couldn't seem to get it right. It drove me to create what i think are a couple new friction hitches that are dandy with either RW or HH.
I'm happy and then some with my set up. Experiment away!
This stuff is great, very…..slippery? Outlasts everything else(nothing meltable in the jacket), and seems thicker and more flexible than bailout.

Just an update.. ordered some Teufelberger 9.3mm EpiCord in 26, 28, 30 and 32". spent the day yesterday, experimenting and settled on the 32" Michocan with 6 wraps on my yale 11.7, 6 seems like a lot of wraps i thought, but i found 5 to slip. never used the michocan before but after loading it heavily i loosens up very nicely! distel an vt worked but seemed to still lock up after a heavy load. thanks again for all you're help!

Thanks for that comment about how the michoacan acts. I had not heard that before, especially in comparison to those other hitches. Interesting stuff, I may have to give it a try.

I use the knut hitch, currently.
