Question about altec and Terex rear mounts

Why does altec put their rear mounts set back from the tow plate and Terex puts theirs right at the back? Altec is sacrificing about five feet of horizontal.

I think the Altec is heavier and their thinking is the boom is more stable over axle. Tha best rear mount ever for tree work was aerial lift of Connecticut. They had their boom turret right at the back of the truck. With cab to axle of 84” it was the best setup. They had a squared torque box under unit to give unit stability and more rigid. Had to go on a 33,000 give truck

That’s kinda what I thought. I heard the altec is heavier than the Terex

I have flown a rear mount 75 ft Altec elevator repeatedly as a friend of mine has one mounted on a short freightliner M2 4x4 chassis. Overall I really like it. It has a very fast upper boom. The controls are on the right side which kind of annoys me. I'm used to my versalift controls being in the front. I hold my saw with my right hand while I'm moving around if I'm going to use it again in a second and use my left hand to control the bucket.

The great Mickey mantle was a great hitter lefty or righty. I too believe you could be a great bucket operator with either hand with some practice.
