This has happened to me a couple different times now and it is quite annoying.
the retrieval snap for my pulley saver will get sucked up into the pinto pulley and cause some extra friction and has put a small groove into the sheave of the pinto (still smooth no burrs!).
has this happened to anybody else? any tips on getting this to stop?

The Kiwis feel your pain, use a ring. It won't get sucked up plus it's got less sharp edges to ding your business if you let it freefall. Or you could daisychain the tail so that the stiff piece which attaches to the shackle can do its job, which is to keep the shackle from getting sucked into the pulley. Actually screw that use a ring. Check out my homemade dealie, been using it since Nov, have yet to get it stuck:

Which pulleySAVER do you have?
If you have the short pulleySAVER then just extend the device out to its max. It was found that if you have almost flat rope angles during some climbs that the retrieval snap can ride up into the pulley.
 
I have found if you turn the snap in the opposite direction it fixes itself. Usually I'm not far from my TIP before i realize it is happening. Then I just unsnap and re snap in the opposite direction. Has this worked for anyone else? Also i think larger diameter climbing lines are more susceptible to this.

I have actually noticed this same thing. Just yesterday I was climbing with some friends and we was out on a long limb walk with a steeper rope angle and I watched the snap ride up into the pulley. It was clipped in a way that wasn't causing a problem.
 
have the medium sized one. seems like it happens whenever i get a twist in my line or when i really want a smooth jumping descent. such a pain.
 
I know it's an old thread, but I was trying to figure out Treewill's setup... The Pinto Rig is 24mm cheek to cheek, and the smallest DMM ring is 26mm inside diameter. How does the retrieval ball work when the retrieval ring is larger than the pulley? Is it just the space taken up by the accessory cord attached to the ring that blocks the retrieval ball?
 
Aha, you are sharp. I use a ring from a throwball and loop made out of throwline. Since the throwball ring is not a sphere it goes through the narrower cheekplates of the pinto rig, but is unable to go through the ring.

Who wants to pay $5 for a tiny plastic ball anyway?
 
Thanks Will, I never would have figured that one out. Good idea. Do you find the throwbag rings ever get stuck (don't want to spin around to go through the pulley)?

By the way, thanks for running the ecology climb before the ISA conference, that was an awesome experience!
 
Goog question mate! Yes, you must instal pulley-saver verry correctly and i tie on tail with Edelrid carabiner figure eight knot and this hold biner down in good position. Never i dont had problems with moving carabiner up into pulley. Itś understandable for you, please?
