pruning walnut

Ya, I'm slowly getting on nicer landscapes and working for customers that actually like their trees. Its been a long road, but seems to be paying off.

I wish I would have charged the batteries to record the entire job. In hindsight, I should have set up a camcorder on a tripod on their deck too. That way it would show their veiw opening up and more light and space for the understory plants. Nice pruning jobs dont come around too often and I wanna make some decent vids for my web page.

A before and after pic from the deck would have worked too. Oh well.

Thanks for the posts.

It's funny that some would say that running a chainsaw for a pruning job would be less taxing than hand sawing all day. I find that my forearms cramp up more from the weight of a power saw than an entire day of hand sawing, it's kinda relaxing, and quiet

. Nice video, Black Walnuts are nice trees, lot's of squirrel encounters!

I like climbing without the weight of a chainsaw when possible. But after the last cut in the vid I had my groundman/Dad send me up the echo.

I'm the same way, I feel free without the weight of the saw, but making those 3inch plus cuts even with a silky can wear you out. Depends on the wood too. Depending on the tree, I'll stage the saw in an area that I know I'll be climbing back to for use in the next section.

Cool vid!

anything worth having is worth working for.

Thanks! Hope I get some more nice pruning jobs to make vids with. That landscape was just cool with the fire pit and nicely landscaped with all those boulders.

Nice work. Awesome video and sweet pruning job.

And I agree with everyone, climbing without a chainsaw is the best. But I'll definitely call down for one when I get into things over 3", depending on the tree.

Thanks. When the unusual happens and I get a nice pruning job, I think to myself "I cant belive I get paid to do this". I would love to have 1-2 big, sweet pruning jobs a week and do PHC the rest of the time.

There are so many neighborhoods here with 20-30 year old trees that have never been touched but in need of a good thinning and structual pruning before its too late. I've thought about handing out fliers, but that seems kinda cheessy anymore (use to do it like crazy, felt like the neighborhood boy looking for lawns to mow).

Frax, does the go pro battery life prolong by just pushing the stop and start button, or do you have to turn the camera completely off and back on?

I'm wondering the same thing Aaron. I suspect turning it off completely would save more battery, but maybe thosse who are more experienced with the Go-Pro can add more. My battery and card give me about 2 hours.

I think your right, have to turn it completely off to save battery power. That kinda sucks because the on/off button is right by the lens, so I'll end up smearing stuff all over the field of vision.

I like everything else about the gopro though. I think some cameras have a remote on/off button worn on the wrist.

Nice job and nice vid. I did like the landscape around the tree there funny what you can plant near a walnut. I have 6 mature Black walnuts on my property I have let them go sorta natural. Kinda cool looking, but soon will be doing some load pruning. Oh yeah you will have those clients again and again I have found out that walnuts like to sucker alot the year after pruning. Great job just watch the fruiting cycle when using a chainsaw in those trees have found out near and during the cycle the sap tends to be a little more potent and can actually cause small burns or blisters where the chips get on you.
