Protos visor modifications?

Just ordered a white n grey protos. Was thinking of trimming up the visor into more of a half shield, petzl/kask shape. Didn't know if anyone has tried this, I didn't see anything only came across the tint jobs. Also if anyone knows whether the mesh that comes with it is the fine mesh or the wide mesh? I purchased mine through sherill but I know TS has both options available if your looking at the bare bones version with options to add the muffs and screens. Figured the screen would be easier to cut then a shield.
 
I would also say to keep the shield. You'll eventually forget it's there until you try to swig coffee through it. I held off on that purchase for too long. Love that helmet, straight outta the box.
 
There are at least 4 previous TB threads on Protos visors, fine Vs coarse mesh, etc.

I have both the fine mesh, and the coarse mesh visors.
I thought that the coarse mesh would make easier viewing.

The comparison result is just opposite, at least for me.
The coarse mesh caused a distraction.
Get the fine mesh. Better for dust anyway !

When I bought mine, there was no standard for the mesh. Both were stocked (at TS). You could ask for either.
If you didn't ask, they just sent whatever they had, or wanted to.

Fine Mesh Openings: ~ 1.0 mm W X 1.3 mm H
Coarse Mesh Openings: ~ 2.2 mm W X 3.0 mm H

I certainly would NOT trim the mesh length.
The perforated metal sheet material is only 0.016" Thick.
The "relatively" large openings make the strands very small.
Without the plastic from this mesh is going to be VERY flimsy !

Thanks for all the input. I was certainly going to test the waters fresh out of the box before trying anything silly. Greg you know your stuff, I was thinking I would have to re outline the edges with some sort of molding. Maybe some sweet door edging you'd see at autozone... Again this is just a feeler question, not anything I'm about to get myself into... Just yet. @oceans are you referring to the shield or the mesh? Thought the shield could get real hot in the summer around here compared to having a lil air flow with the mesh.

Keith, I was just referring to the fine mesh that came stock on mine. I thought the helmet may have been sort of gimmicky but I turned out to be my all time fave.

I can imagine the clear shield being a different story. I've been known to modify stuff :eek: but I also try to give everything a fair shake before breaking out the tools.

Either way, enjoy the helmet, and all your co-workers calling you "space invader" and what not.
 
I have a clear shield as well as the stock mesh, I used it for stump grinding until I left it in another guys truck accidently, he put something on top of it an the vibration of driving scratched it all to hell right in the middle.

As a retired chemical engineer, I certainly would not Plastidip my helmet without knowing a LOT more.
e.g. Helmet plastic material, ALL of the various solvents used in the Plastidip, etc.

Solvents could be detrimental in several ways:
1. Solvents can obviously soften, dissolve, or "melt" the plastic.
2. Some solvent / plastic combinations can actually induce stresses in the plastic which make it very brittle.
3. etc

Years ago I was trying to clean a lot of 1" thick CPVC plastic parts, by soaking them in tri-chlor-ethylene.
The parts literally fell apart on their own, due to induced stresses.
 
I would think that that custom spray job might invalidate any warranty or standard of protection guarantee? I know that even adding stickers (decals over there?) are frowned upon here, Europe.
