Product re-call

I talked to my supplier yesterday about this and he promptly called Petzl-USA about it. According to Petzl USA, THERE IS NO FACTORY RECALL CONSERNING THIS BINER!

If there was, they would definitly be putting the word out themselves.

If you want a more definative answer, go to Petzl usa's website and call them tomorrow.

At least this is what Ive been told.

Petzl has sent out emails to suppliers giving you a test of how to properly check the biner. They will replace non-conforming biners meaning, they are opened(with some moderate pressure) turned on the gate and turn into a twist lock instead of 3 lock biner.... had a couple on my saddle, gettin em replaced with something else... no big deal, just another accessory biner.

THE PETZL BALL LOCK 'AMD' SHAPE (OVAL) WITH THE NEW METAL SLEEVE HAS DEFINATELY BEEN RE-CALLED. CHECKED WITH UK SUPPLIER AND LANTRA INSTRUCTOR JUST THIS WEEK. NICE OF PETZL TO LET US ALL KNOW THROUGH THE MAGAZINES AYE??? AFTER ALL, IT'S ONLY THE THING THAT CONNECTS US TO MISSING THE GROUND!!!! SACRE BLUE

I just discovered that the green metal petzl ball lock I was using for my lifeline is "DEFECTIVE" the gate opens and slides past the green ball without having to push it down. One of my good friends in california who's a timber faller and climbs big redwoods bought like 15 of them and gave one to me because he said it's much safer to climb with ball lock than tri-act. I've used it since, but I raced to call him after found out because mine turned out defective.

I've heard they have recalled this from another person, so will be sending mine back to petzl. hope nobody gets hurt.

Very subtle defect. Weight the biner, then try and spin the sleeve without touching the ball. Some do,some don't. The ones that do open with surprising low amount of pressure. I've had no problems with the tri-act.
