Picture attachment size issue

Is there a way to get the site to accept larger files, such as the average sized picture taken with an iPhone or similar device? I think people would be much more inclined to share images and files if they didn't have to use software or an image resizing site to attach them. I know I would.

When I try to upload a pic from my phone I usually get the "file too large" message, but if I take that same picture, put it on my computer, and upload it from there it goes on no problem. I feel like it's an issue with the mobile site, but I'm not a computer whiz so I could be wrong.

As they come out of a digital camera, they are huge both in dimension and filesize. Enormous bandwidth hog and a major reason while most hosting providers throttle bandwidth. Most forum (BBS) software requires ImageMagick on the server to keep the pics within certain size limits, which in turn, makes the server work harder. There are free/cheap apps for nearly all handheld devices that will resize the pics with a couple of clicks... some can be set to automatically resize them to a fixed width (800 pixels is good) while maintaining aspect ratio. This helps a lot, but unfortunately, I haven't seen one that also optimizes the pics for the web (a compression process that cuts filesize by reducing resolution, since the pics are normally much higher resolution than necessary). For that, you need a decent photo editor with EXPORT/OPTIMIZE functionality.

It would, indeed, be nice if the devices came with built in functionality to do the resizing/optimizing automatically. Set it up once, have all the pics that are sent over the phone/web just do it for you. But, that would make too much sense. Might cost them an extra 2 cents per phone.

There's 2 things you could do. 1- set your phone to take photos smaller 2- get the Reduce Photo Size app like I did. It's free and very easy to just reduce and save. Then you upload the smaller version.

Allowing the website to accept 8m pixel photos would kill the speed of the site and require a huge server.

My phone does not seem to have the option. I have investigated this in the past for this issue. It's an iPhone 4S (I think), so if anyone knows the secret, let me know.

I am well versed in photo resizing, both on my computer and using remote sites. As easy as it is, it is an extra step that dissuades me from posting pics. I spend too much time staring at computer screens as it is, so the extra step, to me, is a PITA. What I was hoping to hear is that sites like this could auto-resize the pics themselves as part of the upload, but I guess not.

Agree with Tom. I know how to post pics within the 1mb size limit. I certainly wouldn't expect a newbie to though. To do it, we have to download extra apps on our phones and tablets. Time-wise, we spend probably triple the time posting an image that we would spend if the system would just resize it for us. And most of our pics are on our phones anyway so, many times there's an additional step of transferring files over to our desktop computers, should we choose that route.

On my phone or tablet, I also use the app "Reduce Photo Size" and it works. But this is the only site I've had to use it for. 1st I have to download the app. Then I open the app. Then I find an image I want to resize. Then I resize it. Then I save it as a different name. And finally I can upload the newly named picture.

Everything else we're using today resizes the images for us. Facebook reduces images to fit. Texting on phones compresses before sending. Just saying....

Hi Tom

I've increased the attachment size to 10mb :)

Log in to TreeBuzz from your phone, and click 'upload a file,' then select 'photo library,' and click on the image. This takes you to the 'post reply' stage, same as desktop.
