Pick Gone Wrong

[ QUOTE ]
I,ve been fooled a few times thinking a branch was butt heavy, at least mine were close to butt heavy.

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah I've had those too, sometimes picks can be deceiving. We did a good size job last year(it paid for the F600 chip truck) where we removed several single stem pines around the perimeter of the yard. We got real good at setting the chokers so when we picked the tops they would slowly roll to near horizontal and it worked out well for setting them behind the chipper. I don't get the impression thats what was going on here though.

Some of you guys are second guessing this guy as if you think he should have known better, HA!

He probably doesn't have a clue how to do a craner, how to judge a load, how to communicate with the operator, how lucky he was, or for that matter how to sharpen a saw or identify a tree. Now I don't know this fellow, but i'm going to generalize here and suggest that his qualifications are: "I own a bucket truck and some chainsaws", that's it! No formal training, lack of suitable tools - "Those darn ropes are just too expensive", no concept of what kind of game he's really playing, that guy missed the whole black team, and climbing? yeah, seems obvious to me, Spike up there to set the straps high then it's back in the bucket to make the low cut, but I bet this guy has NO climbing gear.

Like I said, I don't even know this fellow, but I know plenty of guys just like him, keeping those accident rates up and public image down.

Yeah, kinda reminds me of the last few second of Nosak Raw videos with the crane. Heck, maybe thats where he got his training!!!

I have never seen anything like that in person, just on you tube, and i really hope in my career i never have to witness that type of tree work.

I have to imagine that it was the real thing. Only because i really dought that someone would stage that, it would be too risky. But you never know with those guys.

Also, if you look at all the other crane work they were doing, they didn't seam to have a clue. The pieces were very large picks and moving around way too much. There climber takes a huge swing after a piece of wood was cut, for what reason? It just looks like there figureing it out as they go. Just my opinion, i hope no one gets killed.

(Now they tree falling on the car, that was totally staged)
