Petzl Foot Ascender Kickout Solution

Out of the box this is heads above the Pantin. (IMO) I doesn't kick out and it doesn't loosen up. My pantin had to be modified so it wouldnt loosen to the point it was riding up my ankle. I took it to somebody and had velcro sewn all over the ankle strap so I could dbl it back on itself. Even when I ties an overthand arount the top strap it would still loosen.

This CT product is the deal. Use the small biner for your keys and just get one of these. You wont regret it! Pantin=paperweight. Anybody want mine?

Cute vid Tyler, nice solution.

Have to agree with Casey on this one, develop the right technique and you'll have no probs. One aspect I love about the Pantin is the ABILITY to kick it off the rope whenever I want without reaching down with my hand.

I think the type of rope has a lot to do with it too. I use HTP snakebite with great results. I noticed more of the annoying kickout on Escalator.

Casey and Eric, I agree also... but when you have a kernmantle rope that wires, even the best such as yourselves will get frustrated. Steve, I have no desire to spend the money on a new one with a locking cam because this takes just as much time to take the rope out of the pantin now but a couple seconds longer to put the rope in.

Using a HAAS type setup, the pantin does kick out for me. It's difficult to keep the pantin in line with the rope using a knee ascender. I have no issues otherwise.

The previous generation pantin had a hole for a small biner to lock it on. I have no idea why they removed it. Hindsight 20/20, I would have purchased the CT foot ascender too.

This will only be used for long ascents because like you said Eric, i also love how i can kick the pantin off at any moment. I am up to free offers on the quick step though... just an fyi

The time it takes me to pop the cam lock with my thumb is far less than kicking out setting my hitch then squatting down to feed it back in the pantin. I probably don't use mine as much a you guys to my alignment with the rope isn't perfect most of the time so I usually have multiple kick outs so this works for me.

I never said I am the best. I consider myself very humble and help anyone that has a question. Sorry if I took that personal, and you may have not meant it like that.

I also climb on KMIII and it can tend to "wire" with time on it.

Don't get me wrong your idea is sweet. I just find that keeping things in line prevents kickout.

I agree. I did not mean for your to take it personally. I know it may have sounded sarcastic. I watch your videos and learn from your techniques and methods. Anyone I learn from and have more experience then me, I look up to. Seriously tho, no soar feelings!

Hey Tyler, I was wacyhing your video and the. Got curious about other videos you have made and I saw your video on the teufelberger platinum 11.5 review I was interested to know what kind of accent method you used I looked like have a rope walking system, I want to kno how you set that up looked very fast and easy to set up if you could give some tips on it would be much appreciated

Thanks

CC

Aaron, haha I got it for free at the expo in NC. Nice material for the winter. You may see me wearing a lot of Bartletts shirts because last semester, I was roommates with the Presidents of Bartletts son (Jack Ingram). He gave me a bunch of hand-me-downs.

Gabriel, thanks for asking. In that video and all of my vids, I was using the HAAS ascender on my my left foot and a standard pantin on my right foot. A bunch of configurations can be done with how you advance your system. I prefer a chest harness made by petzl, if i don't have that, then i use a lanyard over the shoulder, which works well too. If you have the HAAS or are looking to buy one, a good resource for setup is Michael Frankhauser's youtube channel. I have seen systems like the HAAS be made, checkout Lawrence Schultz's youtube channel if you want to do that without spending the $$$. I use the zk-2 rope wrench ALOT because converting from ascent to descent is a breeze (there is no converting). Even if you don't SRT and stick solely to DRT, the HAAS can still be incorporated in your system along with a pantin. Not as fast but quicker then humping.

Jimmy, I found the biner laying around my house. Pretty sure I got it from the local hardware store awhile back. Treestuff has some nice little accessory biners.

Hey thank you I looked into the HAAS system and watched those videos you talked about, I might get one I use the hitchhiker with the tether from ABR and a CMI foot ascender, so my left leg doesn't do much and my right leg does all the work, my next question is do you think that the. Haas will be efficient with a handled ascender or do you think it will be to bulky and get in the way of each other?
