Anybody have experience with the Pelican Rope tree viper 24 strand. I like that it’s made in USA and it’s cool looking. I’ve only used Samson Hyperclimb but, looking for something more SRT friendly but still DRT useable.

I've not used Pelican, but I can't think of a better rope than Hyperclimb for me at least. SRT up, MRS/DRT aloft. I'm just an amateur though, so hopefully you'll get some more useful feedback.

I have a bunch of slings made from pelican hollowbraid. I really like how their stuff splices; the easiest of any brand I have tried. Specs look good, and performs as advertised. Have never tried any climbing or rigging lines from them though.

Initial report from today’s climb. I was base tied over a branch at about 60 ft. When I loaded the rope to check my TIP it felt a little springy. I’m still looking for the elongation specs but, it’s new so I’m going to give it some time. I usually climb with Samson Hyperclimb which is 1.6% elong. at 10% ABS or Silver Ivy at 1.3. IDK why they’re different because I thought it was the same rope, different color. The Arborist Pro is very nice in the hand and holds a knot great. It looks awesome which drew me to it. It goes through the RW smoothly. I’m using a Pelican Bulldog Technora 8mm prusik. I don’t like the 10mm because it’s stiff. Im going to get another 8mm Bulldog. That’s it for now. I’ll update again next week or if I find the elongation.

I climbed today 3x on this rope. I was canopy tied SRS at about 40ft. Here’s what is a little odd about this rope. It is stretching when loaded on initial ascent, meaning when you test the TIP. I get a bouncy feeling that is different from the Samson. Maybe that’s from the nylon core? Once I start climbing I don’t seem to notice it. It seems to keep its shape through the RW. I haven’t MRS with it yet but, will soon. Here’s the elongation. I have a wide spread canopy job this week that I’ll have to limbwalk.1733790039551.png

wow, that sounds like some stretchy rope
Yes. I used it this week because my primary Hyperclimb has sap all over it and I didn’t feel like dealing with it. The rope preformed well with my RW. If you can get over the initial bounce, it works good. I SRS to about 50ft and once I get climbing, working I really don’t have anything negative. It holds an alpine knot good and came out of the tree easily. The redirect doesn’t seem to affect the friction pulling it out. The 8mm hitch cord grabs it well. I’m going to continue to use it for the season. Just wanted to update.

My concern with easily spliced lines is the jackets have a tendency to be less durable. A loose fiber is an exposed fiber. If it has fight in it at the shop it’ll have fight against the elements in the field. That’s my beef with most Samson lines. Baggy jackets die quickly.

Yale seems to do better. Certain Teufelberger lines like xstatic are bomber. Sterling htp jackets are otherworldly. Courant’s non-milking lines are crazy good (though they fluff up rather fast). I’m interested in pelican and other US brands. Jacket tightness is my first measure of a line.

Pelican claims that the Tree Viper is Zero milking. I don’t have enough climbing time on it to judge the polyester cover toughness. I haven’t had an issue with the Samson Hyper climb or the silver ivy. If I buy Samson again, I’ll get the silver ivy because it seems to be more static and no fuzz after using.
