Pacific Helmet

I got a Pacific brimmed helmet about 2 months ago and I have been happy except for one thing. The head band turns my forhead black. It will happen after only about 10 minutes on my head. I have been wearing a bandanna to help take care of the problem. Then one day I forgot the bandanna so I put duct tape over the head band. That works pretty slick but the sweat just pours off my head into my eyes. I e-mailed Pacific to see if they could send me a new head band. They of course sent me no reply. I figured that since I bought the helmet from Sherrill, I should see if they can help. I called them up and they are looking in to it for me. I asked if they have had any other complaints about this helmet. They said no, but I wonder if any one else has had the same problem with the head bands turning their heads black? I sure hope Sherrill can solve this problem for me.... I will post again when I get some resolution.

Who sweats more than a welder in the summer?

Apparently me with this helmet.

Actually I do think this helmet is way more comfy than the Petzls that I have had in the past. This is a good helmet over all. It just gets old having the guys asking me if I just got back from church on Ash Wednesday.

did you ever notice on the back side of the nameplate on the helmet (the side that faces your skull) those 2 short nasty points that affix the nameplate to the shell?? They have a small piece of vinyl tape over them. I had a Pacific but sent it back cuz of those points and because it wasnt comfortable. The only thing I liked about it was the brim for sun protection. I wish petzal had one like it.

I got one from sherril about 3 months ago and think its great, although im using my vertex vent till it cools down here a bit.
The first day i wore mine i also had a black band on my fore head, I only found out at the end of the day, however everyone else had got a laugh all day!
I ripped out the black liner and put one of the terriband instead, also from sherril.

Emr, I made my own sweatband for a helmet once. Just grabbed a towel, cut it sorta to shape and hand sewed it in.

Pacific/sherrill should fix the prob for you, but this might do in the mean time.

Nick, I thought about that. My wife was going to sew me something. For now duct tape will have to work. I sure hope Sherrill comes through for me.

I used my Pacific for 5 years....don't remember a problem. But I have a great snap in terrycloth headband, which I may have purchased from Bishop (bishco.com, hard to navigate website) which has a better selection on many items that any other arbo house.

Alright it has been 2 weeks since I originally contacted Sherrill for some help on this. After one week I called to see if they had anything for me, but they said they were trying to contact someone at Pacific to see if they can get a replacement head band for me. Now a second week later and still now reply. Am I wrong to think that since I bought this from Sherrill that they should help resolve the problem? I dont want to turn this into a bash fest, but I am getting sick of being ignored. I just dont see how this should take more than a day or two to resolve. Thoughts?

I think I had the same thing happen when I first got my Pacific Helmet. Now the leather insert is long gone, so it is just the plastic on my forehead. That doesn't absorb any sweat.

However........., the last time I was at the Vermeer/Sherrill dealer............, I saw something that caught my eye. At first I thought it was a windproof hat (go ahead, ask me about one of those too), but when I asked about it it is what I call a "sweat hat". It comes in a dew rag style or a normal hat style which I did buy (about 20 bucks). The name brand is Halo and it has a little rubbery band inside the hat which actually does help reduce the amount of sweat going down my forehead and onto my glasses. Yes, I am saying that it does indeed work. The other selling point is that it is supposed to help you stay cooler by evaporating sweat off your head.

emr, you might think of getting rid of the leather insert and trying out the Halo. Don't let the dark forehead bother you so much that you stop using the Pacific Helmet, it is really a comfortable hard hat to wear, and the look great too. Best of luck

I have been wearing this style for a few years now, and have bought a few of them. Everyone of them turned my forehead black. Add the terrycloth cover and don't forget the dew rag. I still love the way these lids fit.

Does it ever stop turning your head black? Even if this is a common occurrence, it still doesn't excuse both Pacific and Sherrill not returning my calls/e-mails. I guess I will put up with, but I am still annoyed.

Take Tom's advice on this, really. Welding shops are a dime a dozen and each one sells terry cloth snap in sweatbands or sweatbands that close with velcro.
they are like little towels and inexpensive.

I have a drawer full of them. Works very well.

like i say, im using them in my pacific as well as my vertex. they are wonderful and also cheap, i got mine from sherril but should be available elswhere too. terry cloth all the way!

I use the terry cloth headbands (purchased through Sherrill). I also have the Halo headband, but never thought of using the two together. Does this really help with sweat?

I don't know why but I sweat like crazy. I mean, I could sweat eating an icecream cone in a snowstorm, naked!
