Overturned Tree Truck Closes Road
TOPEKA, KS -- The driver of tree trimming truck equipped with a boom crane was unscathed Tuesday after his vehicle turned onto its side while driving along N.W. 17th, between N.W. Menoken and Country Side roads. A Shawnee County sheriff's deputy said the truck was traveling west about 5:15 p.m. along N.W. 17th when it entered the northern ditch for an unknown reason, returned to the roadway and overturned onto its side. The deputy said the driver wasn't injured. Authorities said the truck is owned and operated by Capital City Tree Care, of Topeka. Grooves about 200-feet long and an inch deep were left in the pavement from where the truck overturned and slid along the two-lane road. The truck came to rest on its side and facing north in the middle of N.W. 17th. The back of the truck contained yard and tree debris. Silver Lake firefighters assisted and were able to clean and contain hydraulic fluid that was leaking from the vehicle. Tow crews with Browns Super Service, of Topeka, used a crane to hoist the truck onto its wheels before removing it from the road. Authorities closed N.W. 17th for about two hours. http://cjonline.com/news/local/2010-10-19/overturned_tree_truck_closes_road
