one of my out rigger on my bucket truck start leaking bad. it not the valve pack or lines or fittings. most likely the cylinder needs come out and repacked. what do i expect as to shop bill? this is my first time. Thx. Erwin

I’d do it myself if I don’t have a cummins engine to put together for my bandit 250 chipper. Don’t want to spread out too thin. Plus, the phone is going to start ringing off the hook soon, rather go do more tree work than mechanical work.

I am currently getting a cylinder repaired on the lower boom of my truck. Cost is $585 and includes removing the cylinder from the truck. Some shops have you remove them and only bring in the cylinder.

I'm not sure how that would compare to your situation as my cylinder will be bigger, however yours may be harder to get to. Also differences in shops...

When we did one several years ago, we drove our truck tight alongside a sunken loading dock like this. Then get a forklift down in the pit and slide the entire outrigger down and out of it’s holder.

Thx for the cost information. I’ll see how to take it off. My gut feeling is that it could b quite a chore.

You may want to start with a quote first. If a shop will take it off for you, and only charge an additional $100 then it isn't worth the time you would spend on it. It never hurts to get a free quote

Dig a big deep hole was my idea years back...took it to my crane guy and it was done cheap and fast... never bothered to ask how...he can deal with it.

Digging a deep hole was my idea as well when I was looking at mine and saying "I hope I never need to take that apart" I like the idea listed above with the loading ramp. Not only do you not have to dig, but you can work standing up like a normal human being. Instead of upside down in a hole.

Should be 600 or 700 per outrigger at a shop including R&R if it just needs repacked. Depending on where you're at , what it is, etc
