Could just be burls but two big locusts here have these huge masses and some of them are oozing.

Seen this?

Herbicide exposure has been heavy over the years. Both from lawncare equipment applications but also near base of the tree (rather than a mulch bed around it). Both have been over lifted and over thinned. Canopies look great otherwise.

I don't think that is the Honey locust knots. I've not see evidence that they turn into much more than a knot on a limb. Those look like proper burls.

A little gummosis on HL isn't uncommon...sounds like you need to cut those open though. Got a lathe? Turn them into bowls. Don't have a lathe...sounds like a great excuse to go get a big one.

I didnt think so either but with the herbicide cocktails used near them, I disnt know. Preemergent, post emeregents, sedge herbicides, etc
