one handing over your head

he did it again here:

And you're doing the unnecessary one-handing again at 16:22.. one handing over your head, left hand used to pull the climbing line out of the way. I know that you think that's safe.. and it may be it is FOR YOU, but that's a bad example to set.. some rookie is going to see you do it and figure that's the best way to cut trees. You could either wait till you get up there to cut it since you're going up there anyhow. OR SIMPLY EDIT THAT SH!T OUT OF YOUR VIDEOS. or how about getting a handsaw. now that's a revolutionary idea.. you heard it first here

@Daniel if a greenhorn climber watches a YouTube video, and goes out and mimics what they’ve seen, they are headed down a dangerous path anyway. Every piece of equipment in use to climb a tree, states “For professional use only” or “Trained persons only”….. therefore a person would learn the dangers of one handing a saw in their training right? What he documents in his videos is authentic tree work, that’s worth watching. Did your parents not allow you to watch R rated movies as a kid, because you’d go out and mimic what you saw on the screen?

How many followers, including legit tree peeps, does August have?
Honest question doesn't pretty much everyone one hand sometimes? I do is it what I prefer to do for every cut no, but often times it let's me keep a more secure position in the tree or not have to get as much of my body weight way out on a small limb, one of the things I like about my msa160 is it feels significantly safer to one hand when needed due to the really low chance of kick back and instant start stop.

If only arb supplies could sell anodized judgment and bling-y experience.

Something tells me that, stably standing in spurs with a flipline, August was staying in his lane while one-handing away a piddly branch while moving his climbing line.

There should be a rule or law that says never cut yourself with a chainsaw. That would lead to ultimate safety.

@Daniel in your most recent YouTube upload, at 0:34 you one hand a chainsaw. What will I ever do now? Why didn’t you just edit that out? Then AGAIN at 2:34, 2:40, 4:18, 5:18, 5:36, 5:44, 5:52, 5:57 more one handing…… do be such a goddam hypocritical keyboard warrior.
He is just going to say he did it on purpose to see if anyone was paying attention. It was a test!

Had the following banter with August:
Rather than make this a thread about oen handing saws, it might be better to make it about the repsonodibility of video producers to not show unsafe work practices... or at least put in a disclaimer.

@evo recently said my videos were full of unsafe work practices.. I asked him to show me one... SO here's your chance to point out and discuss unsafe practices in tree videos. What are the implications of showing widely used practices that violate ANSI etc.

bad example for the rookies of one handing the saw over your head, close to your climb line, to get that little deadwood at 6:10. I appreciate you keeping it real, but it would be nice if you said something.. like.... "just cause you see me do it doesn't make it OK for you if you are not experienced".. HUMAN almost killed himself trying to tip tie that walnut limb. IMO that's because he had watched a lot of your tip-tiying but didn't understand the danger he was in. THAT WAS 6" FROM DEATH... While it's good to trust that people will have enough sense to keep themselves safe and we don't have to micro-manage every spec of video, because this work is so inherently dangerous, you do bear moral responsibility for showing safe practices or giving fair warning.

I think there are some rooftop parkour channels you need to pester about moral responsibility before you get to me. Oh, and maybe some of those hard alcohol guzzling channels. I absolutely abhor your viewpoint on this. To me it is the definition of immoral.

@August Hunicke ...you don't think that's a bad example for rookies???? one handing a climbing saw over your head??? Did you hear how Human said he got into tree work because he was so turned on by your videos? and then remember when I told you I thought a bunch of your tip tying was unnecessary? (of course, you dismissed that too) and shortly after that, Human comes 6" away from killing himself by tip tying a big limb, just the way he had no doubt seen you do? It's all true buddy... but don't feel too bad... did you see Buckin one hand a mid-sized rear handle saw over his head from a ladder without being tied in???

My last two sentences in my previous reply to you are the last responses you’ll ever get from me on this subject. Perhaps you can refer back to them the next time you’re triggered.

@August Hunicke I wouldn't call my response triggered as much as just speaking the truth. Feels to me like you're getting defensive. Not the first time either.. This isn't hating bro.. it's constructive criticism. You might consider using it rather than just reacting with a knee-jerk borderline hostile response. how hard would it be to edit that little 5 second bit out? It contributes nothing to the production, but certainly by all rational standards sets a bad example, and is a highly unsafe work practice, even by those with experience. Would you let your daughter handle a saw like that on her first aerial mission with a chainsaw? NFW

I have huge respect for the way you live your life, treat your family and co-workers, handle a saw, run a tree service and produce videos. Nothing in the above supersedes that. We just have a difference of opinion. Not worth getting into a pissing match over if it's not going to change any minds. But hopefully, this will give other readers something to think about
Damn he didn't want to be called out on that did he..lol wow I've had a similar interaction with him as well where he came of pretty hostile. And I was like ok so this is how to treat your subscribers? And customer? I've spent hundreds on his site.

but yet, here we all are getting spattered by urine.

I've tried to explain it to climbers when an overnight tree hammock climb is in the planning: "I can just piss out of the tree", "No! You must bring a pee bottle!", "Why?", "Because... wind. And I don't want to climb all over your piss in the morning, I have enough of that with cats."

Also, I don't recommend one-handing cats but sometimes it's the safest way to grab them.

I don't think he was hostile at all considering the circumstances
