One FAT Silver Maple.

glad you could get your rig right up next to it.?
would you say that your new rig is way better than the conventional
boom trucks? both in versatility and strength to weight? I'm pretty sure the answer is yes but its always good to hear straight from the source. Allmark or MikeP, please feel free to chime in. What is something you can do with it that a conventional boom truck or crane couldn't? The remote is sweet but they do exist for "regular" cranes too. THanks again for sharing; and MB, do you own chaps? (lol)

Nice work, that was a huge tree.
What was the condition of the wood once you opened it up and what caused the peel here ...

What cause the peel?

I had felled the individual "fingers"/ spars, with a notch. At a height that was confortable for me to cut. So some of them had a nub anywhere from 2 to 5 feet long. I then cut that nub off with just a back cut and let the sap wood rip down as I pushed the nub off. That's what made that rip.

Condition of the wood: Base of the tree was not rotted, but does easily separate into 3 sections (as I just learned trying to cut some "cookies" from it). The rotted parts where in the individual spars/leaders. Most where heavily rotted due to the damage caused from the tight juctions. If you picture the tree as your wrist, hand and fingers. The wrist was fine, the hand is where all the fingers met and where rot started and each finger was rotted on one side, the palm side of the hand.
