On the Road

Wow! I can't wait to see the movie.

There is a passage in OTR, maybe 'Dharma Bums', I'm not sure, they run together for me, where he and a buddy were outfitting themselves for their hitchhike cross country. They went to an Army/Navy surplus store and found just the right thing for the trip. The way they discussed each purchase taught me about strict tool choices. Determining value isn't simple. making good gear choices is critical too for arbos.

Any idea when it's supposed to be released?

Im not sure no solid release date. I actually prefer Dharma Bums. It was more or less my bible in my early 20s as I rambled around the great American West.

My college friend Jim got my wanderlust going. He would take a week or two a year and bum. We were affluent to have cars...nothing much to speak of but we didn't have to hitch or jump freights.

Kerouac's writing got me going to. The embers were glowing. What finally got me to go was a couple of lines from a Doors song. I'd been a fan of The Doors for years and listened to their albums over and over. One evening I finally 'heard' what I was supposed to hear. If I were to have a headstone this would be my epitaph:

There's only four ['two' fits better for me] ways to get your mind unraveled
One is to sleep
The other is travel

I picked up the needle and dropped it back a few grooves over and over. That was it...travel!

Later in life I discovered Ed Abbey! When will 'The Monkey Wrench Gang' be filmed?

Ed Abbey is another of my heroes as well. It seams i walked in his footsteps everywhere I went. I actually slept in his cabin on the North Rim of the grand canyon once. I wonder who would play Ed?
