McCain has been on the Commerce and Interstate Banking committee for over 20 years, that's oversight of Wall Street. They we're supposed to keep this from happening.

Now he mumbles something incoherent about "we need to form a '9/11'-style commission to study this tragic thing that's happened the last few weeks".

Obama retalitated with "He is a responsible part of the problem". The name Keating comes to mind.

McCain, until today, promised less regulation of businesses and until today, told America that our economy is fundamentally strong".

I don't know, I'm still undecided who to vote for. Some folk don't like minorities, other's don't like rape victims deciding what to do with their pregnancies. Some want more oil drilled faster, and hate polar bears while other's wish to see some health care insurance available to children. Some hated the minimum wage increased .50 cents while other's now want to get electricity and drinking water to East Texas instead of Baghdad,Iraq. I kind of like God's natural gas pipeline and maybe chop-off the right front paws of a few hundred Timber wolves for $150 each, shot from my airplane I can deduct completely, along with my Hummer2, from my income tax that's supplemented by my free Alaska Oil Money and drive straight to the now-closed bank just on the other side of the bridge to nowhere.

It's confusing.
 
Ron Paul would be the Independent candidate, he's still a Republican and serves on committee as one but has been a lone voice of dessent against many of Bush's policies.

I liked listening to him criticize the Iraq war, spending, etc.

For me it's not a good choice because he's into reducing federal regulation, like most of his party but more so. The problem with that is what happened today on Wall Street, but I think he'll respond with more teeth now and alter his direction a little. I respect his independence.

You should vote for him, seriously.

I sometimes reflect longingly on what it would have been like to be a part of that process. When you read things like the federalist papers and other such documents ,even some of the early presidents presidential diaries it seems like they not only thought clearly but wrote well!!
 
Certainly they can, as long as parasitic greedy opportunists stay away from it and society gets a better shot at a decent, unbiased, and stimulating education.

Do you remember the Slide rule? Our school had a 5th grade teacher who showed us how to work an abacus, the History teacher had endless world maps, and the library stocked just about every book published. We read the Classic Greek literature by Homer, Spanish or French was taught in 4th grade, and recess twice a day and everyone took gym class.

Today, the windows of most schools don't even open, science or certainly Biology isn't taught (too much controversy), and most of the semisters are taken-up with TASS/School competency preparation to testing to let the schools qualify for more funding.

I think we can, not currently but after we realize what we've done was wrong.

"Profiles in Courage" is an easy read. The people who are portrayed were incredible. They did what they thought was right but in a way that is so different than these days. Many of them ruined their careers but were proven right in the long run.
 
Its True! they dont even have gym class anymore hardly! I learned how to climb ropes at school, those ropes have been taken away and replaced with scantron test after scan tron test.
