ODSK rigging day 2 dynamic and friction

Great vids - also love the remixed Mt. kimbe tracks. While I was teaching English in Japan, the attention to detail, repetition, and what seemed to be the perfectionism, drove me mad. I was impatient and naive.

Today, back in the US and a little more understanding of mindfulness, I miss living in a society where people give a shit. From the bar-back that hand-chisels nearly perfect spherical ice cubes that just fit in a low ball glass to the dishwasher that knows he will be washing dishes a certain way for years before getting the honor of preparing rice, there is a tenacity, focus, and presence in each moment to do ones best; and tomorrow they will be doing it for again for the first time.

I know what you mean, I was 34 when I came over so my head was a lot more settled than me at 20, perhaps ready to deal with what is in front of me. You are right, there is a huge attention to detail here and the disciple/master relationship still has relevance, in Japanese you say 'Shokunin', master craftsman, and in many cases you can see it in modern Japan. The gardeners and foresters have a strict hierarchy.
The way that Japanese people pull together, some might say, resembles communism, Japan is communist at heart.
Thanks for your words, it's interesting to hear.

I remember when the tsunami hit Japan and the Fukushima meltdown happened - all I could think was "this is apocalyptic and unreal".

I was watching CNN and had been back in the states for a year or so still trying to readjust to from reverse culture shock.

Of course, Japan is just as nuanced and suffers from certain social dynamics like any culture. But as I watched groups of people risking life and limb to haul the disable seniors up hillsides as water rushed against their ankles, throngs of all ages digging trough muck to do the impossible, I realized - these people are tough as diamonds, they are survivors, they will be resurrected.

I'm still in awe how they survived the nuclear bombs and, instead of harboring hatred, have developed a culture of compassion, kindness, and partnership with the West.

Prime minister Abe, following his Grandfathers legacy, has begun to change the capacity of the Section 9 peace accord to allow Japan's 'peace keeping army' more power for proactive tactic. Who really knows the ever changing desires of nations but for sure America has a tight political hold on Japan, just look at Okinawa for on-going mistreatment of Japanese nationals and thier land.
How long were you in Japan, and where?

Yes. Each culture has it's admirable and questionable characteristics. I lived in Sata-izashiki in Kyushu for 3 years. Southern most cape of Eastern Kyushu Japan. Best experience of my life - very different from the stereotypical experience found in Tokyo. I lived in the "Ozark's" of Japan. It is much like the south in the US - at one time the Fuedal south attempted to secede from the Industrial and Imperial North.
