Ocean polyester

Oceans Polyester isn't polyester, the core is Dyneema and I think the actual trade name for the cord is Ocean Dyneema. I have no idea how it came to be called Oceans Polyester.

Consequently it's a class II splice and not a typical one, at least with the 10mm because it has a thin braided layer around the core. I've not spliced the 10mm and I'm not sure what you do with that extra braid. With 8mm it's a typical, kinda finicky, class II double braid eye.

OP has a polyester core and is spliced as a class 1 double braid. Ocean Dyneema is a class 2 splice, its just the outer that is the same material i think.

The Ocean Dyneema has the 3 layers similar to Globe 5000 (think the numbers correct)-pretty sure its a FSE robline company product thats a subsidary of teufelberger. I believe the outer jacket is available on its own and is also known as snakeskin by other manufacturers. Before i saw ocean dyneema on americas cup boats, i wondered why an arb cord was named ocean!

I just finished doing 4 splices in it. The core is definitely polyester.

Manufacturer emailed me that it's a class 1. They emailed me directions which was in their own verbiage, but they were standard class 1 double braid directions.

yeah its a class 1 nick, i just tested and got 26kN on the 10mm. we setup a ropeguide with 8mm vt configured on blaze and tested til the rg snapped (was made of 8mm sirius), this was at 20kN. we then straight pulled the 8mm and got 18kN.

Drew- that's a really great video. I felt like I was watching a kid slowly wind a jack-in-the-box waiting for the clown to pop up!

What popped at 2:40?

love

im not sure nick, all i saw is what the camera saw as we had to stand a little bit away. I think its the dyneema sling settling into the sirius before it melted through.

Yep, that was intense. Three minutes of terrifying anticipation - I wanted to look away, but I couldn't. I knew what was going to happen, but I also knew it would be scary. You should rename the video A Hitchcock Hitch. It's a psychological thriller for climbers!
