Now we're loggin!

Re: Now we\'re loggin!

Nice work Reg. Looks like you kept things under control in an often possibly chaotic situation. At least the video tells that story. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Now we\'re loggin!

Nice, Reg!

1:10 looked close. Exciting.

How are the PNW treating you? Or do Canadians call it the Pacific Southwest?

A far ways away from going through someone's house to get into their garden, eh?

Hope Canada is treating you well. I was looking at Victoria last week while working on San Juan Island.

Seen any Orcas over there?

Re: Now we\'re loggin!

What were they gonna build there?

Amazing contrast compared to what/where you used to do.

Re: Now we\'re loggin!

No Orcas, but I haven't really been looking either. The Canadians have been great so far, they just dont always understand me.

There were about 8 Lots on that site, all new housing, big money.

The stumps were cut high because they were being ripped out, in case anyone was wondering. Many of the bigger firs had Fomes pini, so not the blatant slaughter that it might appear on video.

Lots of sensitive areas and favourable species for retention that we had to work amongst and around, not on the video. Thanks again

Re: Now we\'re loggin!

Last year, Labor and Industries called me in to office. Wanted to know if we do any 'logging'. I said no, we are a tree service, arborists - climb to trim/remove trees.

They defined 'logging' as any time I cut a tree while standing on the ground. They found a few invoices that said 'fell tree' and threaten to up my rates - $4hr tax to $11hr tax for 'logging'.

Now I am afraid to be seen felling a tree. sucks

p.s. - My $2,300 fine is almost done being 'reconsidered'. Maybe they will forgive my 'debt', don't know yet...

Re: Now we\'re loggin!

Love it! Great footage Reg. Looks like you're settling in well. That's enjoyable work, trustworthy hingewood, nice straight trees. Hope the rain doesn't set in too hard here in a bit...

Re: Now we\'re loggin!

Miss working on those big trees, was a great training ground when I was in school. Don't miss the rain though. We just got an englishman at work and sometimes it is difficult to understand when he goes off on a tangent... just figured out a gob is a notch not too long ago haha. It goes both ways though, he chirps us on the stuff we say too, it definitely lightens the work atmosphere up at times.

Re: Now we\'re loggin!

Sweet music choices!

Sneaker Pimps, Radiohead,Crowded House.

Eveer try a Rack for those long descents. Its a only couple extra pounds on the harness.

Cheers

Re: Now we\'re loggin!

Glad to hear the modifications to wholesale slaughter!

Speaking of which, aside from the treework aspect, how do you like the woods/wilderness feel there which I presume is radically different from the UK?

Re: Now we\'re loggin!

It's so much fun not having to rig anything, isn't it?

We did a miniature version of that job this weekend, had a blast! Great job Reg! Ever try making the angled cut of the face first? It gives you a view of the converging cut. You match cuts beautifully anyway, so it prolly never crossed your mind.

I write "climbing dismantle" on my work orders as a measure of safety. "remove tree" at the least.

Lots of times, especially while climbing.

Cory, there's similar stands in parts of Scotland, Cumbria and North Wales....but trees of that size and age would be highly protected. For me its been pedominantly broadleaves thus far....Eucs in Aus and NZ and our beech, oak, poplar and elm etc back home. Thanks

Re: Now we\'re loggin!

gooooood stuff, reg! last 20 seconds of that vid is one of the best sounds ever not too sure about a few of them tunes you soundtracked though.

figured you to be a tad more hardcore than that, sweet vid nonetheless.

stay safe.
