Notice for everyone. Asain Longhorned Beetle

Im in Worcester Mass, where the most recent beetle infestation has been found. Its been here for 10 years before a homeowner noticed it. We have taken down 17000 trees so far, 13000 infested 5000 high risk trees. The town has been devastated. 33% of our nations trees are at risk. Please keep an eye out, the sooner we know about it the easier it is to eradicate. http://www.aphis.usda.gov/ For more information, I will be able to awnser questions also. Host trees include, maple, elm, ash, birch, popalar, willow, mimosa, london plane, sycamore. This effects all of us, from timber to tourisum.

i was in toronto ontario removing trees in 2002 because of the ALB (asian longhorned beetle) its sad we corentined 800 sq meters and removed pretty much every hardwood in it some neighbourhoods had nomore trees at all now in ottawa ontario were chasing the EAB (emerald ash borer) in the next 5 yrs we will be removing almost every ash tree in ottawa very sad not to mention the ALB is only 350 kms away we're in trouble
cheers!

I have worked in the quarantined area in Toronto and despite the removal of upwards of 30,000 trees there was still a decent canopy left. It was horrible to see so many taken down but there are definite physical barriers to the spread, unlike Worcester. That is part of the contiguous forest where much more could be lost.

I havent gotten the chance to hear much about the Toronto infestation. Did they declare a successful eradication? Did they trace it back to wood pallets? Worcester looks more like Arizona right now. Its gotten political, which is a sure recipe for problems.
