no groundman? no problem!

Got a chance to try this today. Works pretty good, still some wrinkles to iron out but I like the idea. It saved me today when I had to rig a 14"dbh pine over a porch alone when my groundie wasn't able to come. It bcomes harder to get it to release when the branches pile up and the biner that slides on the rope sometimes didnt want to come through the loop. Finally it came to an end with two more branches when I dropped the tail of my rigging line and lost the retrievability

The biggest thing is the friction control. The 8 was a little much on some of them need to work on that a little. Thanks for the idea!

[/ QUOTE ]I am glad it worked out for you. I know what you mean about the 8. on small stuff sometimes I just leave a stub to lower off of.

I LOVE IT.

Great insight and innovation. So long at you dont run out of webbing slings and rigging biners looks like something i have to try out. also you need one hell of a long rope.

[/ QUOTE ]Actually the rope is no longer than if you have a ground man its just "upside down".

what about something like this?

just have alot of extra biners and slings with this set up.

That's the way I have done it. The only thing is, you have to leave your strap and biner on the ground. But, it still works.

MattBC's idea is cleaver that you don't loose any gear in the process. You can reuse the same stuff over and over again.

I thought I updated that pic. You really shouldn't let the sling slide on the rope like that. Can't find my other pic. I really should make a video on this subject. I tried once but it was pretty hard to shoot it in a way so that it is all clear. Stay tuned.....

Great idea. As far as the limitations, about how much weight would you put on this system, or are you just concerned with size for the ease of lowering?

Welcome to Tree Buzz!

I'd look a the kN the strap is rated for, convert to pounds, and take 50% off that. (It's an endless loop that is choked, therefore it's SWL is 50%).

For example, if the strap is rated at 25kN, then it is rated for 5,620lbs. Now ÷ that by 2. Whalla! We should safely be able to do 2,810lbs.

But, I'm not saying a 2,810lb limb should be dropped in to a rigging system either. Since the force of a limb dropped can easily reach 4x the actual weight, I'd stick to something no more than 700lbs.

I guess I need a little explanation here. I'm assuming you tie a knot in the tail end of the lowering rope in order to retrieve the sling. When pulling the goods back up, does the micropulley travel through the large carabiner in order to loosen and release the sling?

Oh wait, I guess you tie the knot in the tied-off end of the rope huh? Makin' more sense now. However, if you had several pieces to rig down in the same location, you could reverse the positions of the crab and the pulley and use the tail end several times and not have to retie anything. Thanks for sharin' this. I think I'll be stealin' this one.

Hello to all.Great set up I have some trimming to do at my house and been stuck hand sawing a lot. just need a biner and another sling and I'll give it a go.Thanks matt mental toolbox appreciates it.
