Night climb

I did half a removal in the dark one night, because I ran out of daylight and it needed to be done.

The rock gym I used to climb at all the time would hold occasional “lights out” climbs for members only, those were interesting too.

I was about 50 ft up trying to do a cat rescue late in the day. (I was quite surprised the cat was actually that high; I expected the reported 50 ft to be more like 30 ft.) Got completely dark and I finally gave it up for the day. Had no light and was extra careful with maneuvers in the dark so I didn't do something stupid and catastrophic.

I think the only time I did a night climb was to cut out a wasp nest, obviously done at night for the cooler temps when they were all inside and calmed down.

Seems like a hammock up a tree would be a great thing for a relaxing evening up in the canopy.

I know what you mean about the tree bubble. It was a unique experience to just be sitting there at the top gently swaying in the dark. The hammock sounds awesome, especially on a breezy night.

I was a tech at an ascent event at a NAOM comp in Savannah. Huge ass tree. It was a night event and I had to break down the tree when all was done, along with two others. Geez it was a challenge. But with grit we got it done with no hiccups. The ascent was timed at 70ft. lol.

Tuebor, you gave me an idea. The local drive in theater has many trees around it. Climb on up and see a film. Would need battery radio for sound though. I’d even pay them the price of admission - not trying to get anything for free. Insurance wouldn’t allow it though. Rappel 70’ to the snack bar

Ascending in the dark with a head lamp to the pre installed tree boat brings back fond memories.... eyes playing tricks on me and all of the insect and animal activity... completely different feel to climbing. Settling down and actually sleeping took some time as I am a restless sleeper. Plan on doing it again.

Yea I love it. Back in spring at work we did some crane removals on a highway which was fun too....

I did a little 30’ rope walk followed by 30’ limb climb, lanyard in and sit before descent kinda climb by the pale moonlight last night. No flashlight or anything. It was a lot of fun and maybe a little more of a challenge. Rope was already set during the day of course. Can’t work a bag at 70’ in the dark. Anyone ever do this ?
Yeah! Headlamp really makes life better climbing at night. If it has a “red light” mode even better. With that you can see what you need to see and not lose your night vision.

It is really nice though to hang out in a tree with the lights off.
