New Tribe Saddle

Looking to buy a new saddle and am considering the NT Pro Gear or NT Work Saddle [ which would be better? ] for recreational SRT DRT climbing, and light arborist work.

I will want to occasionally hang a 7lb chainsaw from it too.

I have an older Buckingham Classic II full harness saddle with small padded leg loops, but it's the $hits for hanging from. Great for spur climbing, but that's it.

Also looking at the Weaver Cougar bosun seat, Buckingham saddles with the bosun seats [ versatile, pinnacle, traverse ], and I'm too heavy with gear attached for the Komet Dragonfly, so it's off the list.

Another thing I dislike about the older Buckingham I use, is that I keep wanting to go horizontal while hanging in it.....hoping a bosun-style saddle or a NT will help aleviate that situation.

Kinda leaning toward the NT, but gotta be sure it'll take a chainsaw.

I love it. Enough said. I used to climb in the Master and Glide and I have tried several others. I have to say that my NT Tengu is the most comfy saddle I have ever used. It is my main work saddle and I pretty much use it daily... in the summer that is. It works fine for working in spikes, great for SRT and fine for Ddrt. I have hung a MS290 off of the my saddle before.... if you know Stihls, you know that is saying something about the saddle. You wont be disappointed with a NT. Go for it and report back.

I have both the NT Tengu and Pro. I consider it OK for hanging a saw. What I strongly dislike about both saddles is they twist around your waist when leaning off to the side. So much so that my handsaw, which is clipped to the side of the saddle, ends up behind my back.

I just got a Tree Motion the other day and have used it in 6 trees so far. I like it a lot. I find it very comfortable and I can twist and lean in all types of angles and the saddle does not twist around my waist. The only thing I will now be using the NT saddles for is trimming palms.

That is the main issue for climbers used to floating anchor bridge harnesses for limb walks. Mileage varies per climber style, I have no problem with limbwalks but I'm also used to my harness belt moving around my waist when I go sideways to the anchor. You will get some belt movement with any harness but the NT will start turning sooner. If you have a shortened bridge on your harness it will start turning sooner than a harness with a longer bridge. No harness is perfect so you have to give for what you get.

Well I spoke to Fiona at New Tribe today......she was very friendly and helpful I might add, anyway, I ordered a NT work Saddle and chose the large D's and a pear screw link as desired options. Now it's just "hurry up and wait".

Moss, have you explored the option of having a tab /support or what ever sewn into a NT saddle to hold a croll in position. I saw on one of your vids that you added a piece of cord for this purpose. I didn't get around to asking Fiona about something like that.

I made a tech cord sling to take care of that, works well I haven't talked to NT about a mod in the waist belt.

I think it can be done but requires a little design work by the NT staff. It wouldn't work to simply sew a connector on to the current waist strap adjuster.
