New Toro Tx 1000 Wide Track

I have a gehl 540 and love it. I just might need another material handler for when I add another crew. I'm aware of the gate issue. I started counting how many jobs this would apply to. So far I'm averaging about 2 gates a month. Meh, it might be worth it.

It depends on the size of the wood. 2 gates per month is a lot if you're slicing 6" rounds and hauling them out on a cart slightly uphill...

Then again, if the tracks are 33" wide I can use my 3' alternamats. I may demo a mini articulating loader but I am wary of tipping that thing.

Minis tip too. I tipped mine while running over a stone with a max size log. The only guy I know working an avant 420 tipped theirs as well. Things tip. You have to turn off the engine immediately on at least some units to prevent running the engine without oil. I would definitely demo both types of machines. Lots of guys saying good things about the giants... some guys dislike sitting on the ALs - rough on the back. I talked to a guy with a larger avant who said he got it because the ride was much smoother than on the 420. He seems okay with the jobs he can't access, which I appreciate but don't understand.

The Giant maybe lifts half of what the 540 does, but it is so much more nimble. The 540 is still used for the really big stuff, but we are putting down ground protection more often than not. We have yet to put down ground protection for the giant with the turf tires on it. It is so nice to drive through a wet yard and not worry at all about turf damage. I knew the machine was going to be much more turf friendly than the 540 when purchasing, but it has really exceeded my expectations. The Giant does not replace the 540, but it does the majority of the work we do much better.

Another reason I'd opt for a mini skid is that i could fit both that and my grinder on my trailer. Really make those big stumps easier to go through.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. I can see how if capacity is not need that the smaller unit would be ideal. I have turf tires on our swinger and have had no troubles on turf, the Gehl is new and getting turf tires mounted for spring. I was guessing it to work just as well. The Giants are very nice and having both size machines will be a great luxury.

I just love these loaders and like to talk about them. But sorry again for the topic derail.

If you purchased a <36" machine, do you think you'd probably pick up more than the 2/month gate jobs?

Kinda like the big saw phenomenon?

Don't know where you guys work where there never are any gates but both my tx1k and my stx38 cruised right thru yesterday as they do quite often in my area of op. 2 giant dump trailer loads of logs loaded from back yard and 3 stumps removed. 1st day the chip truck and bc2000 chipper were where the dump trailer was then we went to logs. Made this for Mr. Gorman, my ole pal from Arboristsite.

Who is gonna drive that giant dinosaur around residential tree jobs. That thing weighs over 7000 lbs.

That machine is fast on the ground speed. I have the older model 425. Much slower.

It really scoots Royce and you know I had the 525tx I just sold, much faster. That ground had 2 days of heavy rain on it and then just a short overnight freeze that didn't help at all. Owner dropped off the check today in my mailbox and was completely happy. Probably made 50 trips back in forth not including the stumper. Very minimal damage.

Impressive!! Your camera man had to practically run to keep up:)

We take the loader to every job. If you can walk on the yard and not leave a mark then neither will the loader. In the second picture there was a stump in the landscape. It was cleaned up with the 7000 lb loader, see any marks? If you don't have lots of gates there is nothing better for material handling in my opinion.

back in the day before the minis (i got my first ramrod in 1998),
in Minnesota you weren't a serious Tree company if you did not own a swinger
badass removal cleanup machines - 8000lb articulating doesn't scare me on a nice lawn
(imagine a 8000lb skid on a lawn:endesacuerdo:)
The 540 could load load 2 toros in your dump trk at once :musculoso:

miniskids are great, articulating for most jobs are just better
And my Branch Manager Edition Giant is the only 2000lb lift class machine that can get under 36" wide
+ twice the speed as any miniskid (9.5mph) and lifts near 3' higher also
And with the American hitch plate, if you must(y), you can put any bucket/root rake (dingo) style grapple

Back to Toros - they do have the least aggressive track on the market that I have seen.
a very well built miniloader, by a Minnesota company I might add :hola:
