Received word today that dealers are able to announce the latest pulley from Rock Exotica and it is a big, beautiful 80kN brute. Available July 24

Here are the specs:

------------------------------------------------------------

The 2.6" will take its place as the largest and strongest of all the Omni models. Increases in the thickness and size of key components result in an Omni with an 80 kn / 18,000 lbs MBS (minimum breaking strength), and a WLL (working load limit) of 20 kN / 4,500 lbs, based on a 4-1 safety factor. In addition to an integrated swivel and push-button access to the sideplate, the 2.6" features a prussic-minding sideplate, and a countersunk sheave to improve interaction with rigging lines.

Part #: P55
Sheave Diameter: 2.6" / 66 mm
Weight: 1.9 lbs (850 gm)
MBS: 80kN / 18,000 lbs
WLL: 20kN / 4,500 lbs
Max Rope: 0.5" / 13 mm

Retail will be $155.00. Sorry, somehow I uploaded the pictures as 2.5" while they in fact have 2.6" sheaves.

Oh, who am I kidding, they could make a toilet paper holder look cool.

Yes, they could... with a swivel for more convenient in-tree use...

I have a lightweight rigging setup using 1/2" line and three of the Omni 2.0" blocks for redirects... this new one will be perfect for the main block in the setup. I'm currently using a big tailblock, which is overkill for my application, and this is much more like what I want for the setup.

Hmm.. pictured with Sterling Atlas running through it... which is 9/16" rope. Says 13mm max on the block. I'll have to see if my Atlas will fit in the 2.0" Omni, as I've never tried it. Always use the 5/8" pulleys/blocks with it.

This is a great little block. Almost as light as rigging rings. Strong enough, and I rarelY use anything more than half inch rigging line anyway.

It is so bloody easy to untwist the line.

Very cool tool.

I ordered one from Sherrill Tree on Thursday. Got a free Rock Exocita tee shirt! The girls at Sherill Tree said I should have the block by the end of July .

This thing really is a great little block. I spliced it onto a piece of tenex, and it is a baller. I have been rigging some fairly large bits of tree with it, just to put it thru the paces. And it is just fantastic. Also it's rock exotica, so sexy as hell.

The best thing about the BuzzBoard is getting opinions about stuff before you spend your money or try something stupid.

Thanks, Mac... this item is at the top of my list for this month's purchases. I don't need the usual "this thing is so cool, dudes, I rigged 20,000 pound chunks all day long blah blah" stuff you see on the "reviews" on the sites... just an honest opinion from someone who actually has one, knows the product's limitations, and knows what they're doing.

How did you get the 2.6 Rock Exotica block already?

Has anyone ever gotten any damage from running Atlas in their Omni? It's a little strange that these promo pics feature a rope that isn't within the specs for the product. I just bought an Omni and the Atlas fits in fine but it does seem like the outer edge of the sheave might dig into the rope since it's a little more narrow.

Hasn't hurt mine any, but I only have a 120' hank of it, so I'm usually using 1/2' lines with the OmniBlock. When I have used the Atlas, it didn't appear to be rubbing on the plates... since it swivels, it aligns itself to the load direction real well. I was a bit worried about the Atlas digging into the edges of the sheave walls, too, but it doesn't seem to be an issue.
