New line setting tool

The bigshot goes just as high without the extra line. What happens when the line gets twisted? And the line will get twisted. Repacking it in that tube, I don't know. Maybe it it shot higher than the bigshot. I'll stay with the bigshot, if its not broke, don't fix it.

lol Tom...Ill bet you went right to garage like I did...fumbling through old peices of PVC and other tid bits to assemble your own version.
Im gonna keep throwing...cool idea though.
Very inovative.

I want to see somebody actually train a hawk to set a line. It could go after squirrel's nests too.

With a trained hawk and a team of spider monkeys we could burn up some big prunning jobs.

And no Worker's Comp!

I liked the launch method - mostly internal. Apparently he used very light line to shoot with since he pulled the tag line up with the shoot line. I thought that was an extraneous step, although it may be he couldn't or thought he couldn't get the distance with the tag line. But if he could use the tag line as the shoot line that'd be better.

As for reverse engineering, obviously he's either using a spring(s)or a single latex tubing (similar tubing to the BigShot) for power. I couldn't tell from the video if there was a slot running most of the length of the tube or if what looked like a slot was actually a strong, small cord running from the top of the pole to the throw bag.

One possiblity is to anchor a strong piece of latex tubing or tension spring(s)(like a screen door spring) at the base of the 'launcher' pole (the end that attaches to the reel housing). A strong, small line would be attached to the other end of the latex tubing/spring. The string runs up inside the tubing to the other end of the pole, where it probably exits over a roller and through a small hole or slot mounted near the end of the pole. There would be a small hook to attach to the throw bag and you pull it down to the appropriate point and let 'er fly!

I think the secret with this method would be making sure the hook releases the bag.

The pole could also be slotted but that'd be a more complicated configuration. My money would go on the spring-string configuration. I may have to try that.

COM' ON TOM... LET USE THE OLE POTATO GUN.

never tried it with string thro

Spud guns Rock!!!

The lower portion looks like it is a reel for the throwline and has nothing to do with the fishing line shooter in the small diameter tubing. The fishing reel could be mounted on the base of the small tubing.

I've done some 'windhshield engineering' while driving in the past and had a similar idea. I would make something strong enough to equal the Big Shot power and not use fishing line to set throwline.

Like this? The hawk is in the middle of the photo, the (yellow) throw weight is immediately below the hawk, and the throw linw exits bottom left.

Mark,

do you thnk that my invention could throw it higher????? I do know that it will throw a bag into a dumpster faster than his...

oh yeah, Tom you saw it too....

my prototype is finished i will need to make a video.

Thats perfect!

Will it be in the next Sherrill catalog?

Another. Hawk upper middle, throw line bottom middle.

The hawk says 'No'.

Rob,

Spud guns have been used to set throw lines by lots of people. With some proper engineering and a pressure valve they can be dialed in like any projectile load so that repeatable shots can be made.

The problem with spud guns is that they need a pressure charge. Oh...and a small detail...some police departments consider them weapons and get real testy when they're used in their jurisdictions.

so i wouldn't suggest using a "spudzooka" with a line, when I was in high school we shot a potato over a neighborhood, just about a third of a mile shot just on some hairspray. This thread makes me wanna re-build and go to a cornfield.
