New HitchHikerXF

It took me awhile to come around, but I have come to really like the Xstatic. Is it worth the current asking price of $150-$160 a foot? I don’t think so..

I recently had the opportunity to spend a few days climbing on some Samson Hyperclimb and I loved it. A fantastic rope, and at 90-95 cents a foot it’s a no brainer. I like it so much I just ordered a 300 ft hank of it yesterday.

I can’t speak to the drenaline as I have no experience with it.
xstatic (almost) wears like iron, also i like that with those parallel strand ropes, the strength is in the core. so i‘m not reducing it as much as with 24 strands through ascender-damage. also when rigging by yourself you can shake off the bowline from in the tree :)

Nice, I couldn't get the arbsession hitch to work too well for me. Michoacán variations and Knut are usually my go to. Haven't heard of the HH hitch, I'll see if I can find it. Is it the one Richard uses? Just ordered my hhfx
I think I found the HH hitch, looks like the easiest hitch ever lol. I saw your hitch and thought it looked too simple, there must be a trace in there somewhere lol. I'll keep this one in mind when I'm testing hitch/cord combos. Thank you

I'm using my hhxf with my captains hook and 9mm htp, anyone have a hitch cord and hitch recommendation? I'm 184 lbs plus gear weight.

Maybe try ice tail. It's 8mm but the main part of the hitch will stay flat when tied so should grip the 9mm line well enough. A traditional HH hitch of simple wraps would probably work just fine. It's going to be hard to get cordage that's small enough in diameter and supple enough to grip well on a 9 mm rope. Samson does make tenex tec in quarter inch and 5/16 diameters but you might have to hunt around to find a tree gear vendor that stocks it.

@moss has a mini rope wrench/hitch he uses on 9mm line for his Hook. Perhaps he will give you some insight on what he uses for hitch cord.

To elaborate, there is no way of knowing which 8mm hitch cord will be better than another, try out a few different ones. Same with the hitch and length of the hitch cord, try different hitches and cord lengths until you find something that works. In general I like the firmer cordage and VT for a 9mm Hook line.

I'm using Ocean Polyester 8mm custom length sewn e2e (less than 28") on 9mm PMI EZ Bend.

I have never used that combination, but I am very fond of 8 mm Armor Prus, perhaps tied with a Distal or a Schwabish. Not likely to slip, it should grab very well because it is a fairly soft cord.

View attachment 89043Feel Like I got the HHxf dialed in now thanks to @rico ’s post!

Couldn’t get the Catalan(?) to work the way I wanted, but switching to 8mm RIT and the HH hitch (I believe?), got things running real smooth. Loving the simplicity!.

Thanks Richard for a beautiful device!
This how I have been running the HHFX as of late. A 5 wrap HH hitch with the down legs exiting on the dog bone side. You can see from the 2nd photo that as the wraps unfurl it looks like a VT. A high performance setup that tends slack like a dream, is buttery smooth, and has kept all my other devices in the gear bag for the last few weeks..Highly recommended.

DISCLAIMER- NEVER CLIMB WITHOUT USING PROPER STOPPER KNOTS.

Nice! So you find having the legs exit on the opposite side makes a big difference in performance?

I find that it does. When I am running a Hitch Climber/Wrench set up I run a Petrocan ( a Michoacán spun 180 degrees) because I find that it tends slack much better. The same holds true for the HH with the legs on the opposite side..The one downfall is that it doesn't always bite as quickly.

Is anyone here running the captive eye swing arm on a rope bridge? If so, how is the ring holding up?

I plan on picking up one of these after the weather breaks and the cash flow picks up a bit. Though I like the concept and simplicity of the static built-in ring, I'm not sure how well it will handle the wear a rope bridge can cause on a non-rotating, fixed position aluminum ring.

Good question, I guess it would depend on the rope bridge material and how much a climber rocks and rolls. You have the option of the non-captivye and using a separate ring has configuration shown by @Treemuel above.
Tell you what, if and when you do order, leave a note and I will provide you both Swingarms at no additional charge.

I can't comment on the captive eyes longevity, but they are easily replaceable if/when it should wear out. I didn't get along with the captive version because it was a little too small to accommodate my double rope bridge and a DMM biner when in MRS. I loved the simplicity and design, but it just didn't function in MRS as I had wished. SRT? Flawless. Knowing what little I do about your climbing style and preferences I think you are really gonna like this device Dave!

That is extremely generous of you, Richard, thank you! I was planning on using a traditional aluminum ring and I know that it would work fine. But the more I thought about the benefits of having a stable and stationary ring attachment point, the more I wanted to try it.

I'm not particularly heavy or hard on my equipment, but to date, I have not had good luck with the wear of non-rotating aluminum components on my bridge.

I did not get the captive eye and I know now that I would prefer that or the rock exotica swing eye version....although I have never really liked the hh in double rope apps too

I love the HHFX in MRS, but only with the non captive eye swing arm attached to a ring on my bridge. Much like the captive eye version, I found that the eye on the RE SwivaEye was small enough that it wouldn’t allow the swing arm and a DMM binder to flow freely, which caused annoying lockups a little too often for my liking.
