New helmet

I am looking for suggestions for a new helmet. My current helmet is a petzl alveo vent and is starting to show its age. I was leaning towards a kask but have heard of the size adjusters breaking. Is that a problem that has been fixed? Any other suggestions? The new helmet will be getting a sena smh10 installed on it, but I think it will install on any helmet so I'm not sure if that' a consideration or not.

Helmet is very personal.... I was on a kask for years since I started wearing one in 2010...but I have had a protos which was not for me ...I now own a couple alveo vents and a vertex vent....I love them.....lighter and cooler...I am in the tropics....kask are very nice but get stink quick and are hotter......my 2 cents

Sounds like the alveo is a good choice, unless others chime in. I hadn't had any problems with it, other than the plastic visor, just curious about other options before making a purchase

Kask fits my big head the best. I was issued an alveo once and didn't like how high it sat either. Ive had 3 kasks oldest one i gave away and still going strong 2nd was run over and third fell off tailgate and size adjuster broke so maybe quality is going down?

I like my Kask. I always wear a halo skull cap with it. Keeps my sweat out of my eyes and keeps scalp oil from getting on suspension and lining which helps with the skanky smell.

Protos is the best work helmet I have used. The faceshield and muffs designs are second to none, and it holds a sena setup neatly inside.

That being said my alvao vent is my helmet of choice for rec climbing. Can't stand it with muffs anymore after the pfanner, but it's light as a feather and extremely well vented.

Alevo is too light. The shell is thin, and seems to rely to heavily on the foam inside. It feels like it’s a weekend warrior, a recreation, or a comp helmet. Mine cracked at the ear muff slot within the first month or so. I take pretty good care of my gear, and the biggest impact it ever saw was falling off the tailgate.
Vertex for me

I'm not sure this thread is clearing anything up for me. :D unfortunately the only local store is a Vermeer dealer with limited product selection. I'm not sure if they even carry any helmets there to try on before a purchase.

The new Kask Zenith is great, mostly because the face screen is snap on snap off so you can treat it like real eye protection.

in relation to face shields, does the kask face shield fit as close as the Petzl vizir? I like having a shield, but my issue with petzl's is that the nose cutout would always be pressed up against the side of my nose and closing off part of my airway. It bothered me enough that I quit putting it down except when the wind would pick up and I would get a face full of sawdust. The problem isn't necessarily the fault of Petzl, but the fact that my nose is a little crooked from being broken. For the alveo that I have, I preferred the mesh shield over the plastic just due to the way that it sits away from the face.

Good thinking Jehinten, do what you have to do to always protect your hearing. I've heard many guys say that they don't hear protection because their hearing is already bad. It would seem like they would want to save what they have left, rather than reducing it.
