New climber

do I only need the wrench itself though? What other accessories or hitch cord goes with it ?

I would suggest the hitchclimber pulley as it allows for multiple attachments for a chest harness, knee ascender...etc. And I would suggest ordering the Oceans tether option with the rope wrench. The length of hitch cord depends on what friction hitch you will climb with. Select your preferred hitch VT, Michaocan, Distel, etc. and a cord that works with that hitch...EpiCord and armor-prus are my favorites.

"The Singing Tree Rope Wrench is a simple yet effective device that assists a climber climbing up and down in SRT, or Single Rope Technique. The way the Rope Wrench Works is by using leverage to force the rope into an S shape and providing friction for a controlled descent. When engaged, the Rope Wrench acts much like a conventional descent device such as a Figure eight. When not engaged, the Rope Wrench provides no interference with ascending the rope. This allows the climber to work an entire tree using single rope technique. The Rope Wrench is essentially a descent device that has a neutral gear allowing it to ascend the rope as well. Because of this neutral gear, it is imperative that the rope wrench not be used without a sturdy and trusted hitch. The Rope Wrench is the “limb that goes with you”. It provides the same service to your climbing hitch that the Limb or cambium saver provides in dDRT."

That's an excellent video and is exactly what I'm looking foor...so what in looking at ordering now is
-rope wrench with ocean tether
-foot ascender
-knee ascender

Is that all ?

You can use the ascender that you have been using for RADS and a footloop on one foot and a foot ascender on the other for lower-cost rope-walking.

I finally made my decision after a couple weeks of research. I decided to buy the ropetek hitch hiker 2. I also ordered a foot ascender and a friction saver so I can use it ddrt once in the tree. With the foot ascender and my handle ascender/foot strap I'm hoping to rig up some type of rope walking system to make the ascent faster.

Thanks for your help, this site is great.

One thing to consider is that when you have an ascender above your climbing system with a hitch, it is difficult sometimes to get it to tend the slack in the line causing you to have to " pump" your foot ascender to pull the slack through the hitch. I would recommend a knee ascender of some sort in the future. The knee ascender has made me more efficient on ascent as well as having my hands free now

I see what you mean...good point, I'll see how it works but like you said I'll most likely have to pull the slack under the hitch hiker once my weight is on my hand ascender. I'll try to figure something out once I play with it a bit.

Just remember on your first climb you are going to think you made a mistake, give it a couple more and it'll become more natural. There will always be little changes to the setup that will work for only you. It will take a while to get things dialed in.

Wow does that hit the nail on the head for so much of what we buy and try. Well said Raj.

If you read the srt threads and check out some books that are out it won't be that hard of a switch. There are many advantages such as base tying to not have to isolate your throw line, ascending 1 to 1 with the use of ascenders, and consistent friction throughout your whole climb but in my opinion the most under appreciated advantage is that ,in a way ,it forces you to climb the tree and not your rope making you use your legs ,balance and poise to maneuver through the tree while only having to tend half the slack. Knowledge is power when it comes to the technical systems available to climb trees. Do your research and understand all the advantages and disadvantages before hand so when you switch to this progressive style you are previously prepared.
